The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South has purchased the Fogelman Downtown YMCA for $2.9 million, according to public records.

YMCA acquired the building at 245 Madison Ave. from Forum 245 Madison LLC, according to a May 27 warranty deed. In conjunction with the purchase, the organization filed a $2.1 million loan with Regions Bank, according to a May 26 deed of trust. Keith Johnson, president and chief executive of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South, signed the deed of trust.

20. Memphis Library Foundation Crowdfunds for Cloud901 -

This week, the Memphis Library Foundation launched its first crowdfunding campaign to raise $10,000 for needed equipment in its new teen learning lab Cloud901, opening this fall.

Thanks to donors Jack and Sandra Jones, that $10,000 will be doubled, with their commitment to match up to $10,000.

AutoZone Inc.

AutoZone Inc. is one of the largest auto parts retailers and distributors in the U.S., with a store count of 5,476 as of Feb. 14. Since 1998, the company has repurchased $15.7 billion worth of its own shares. At the end of March, AutoZone continued its share buyback program with the authorization to buy back another $750 million in company stock. The company followed that news with plans to pursue a $650 million debt offering to be used for “general corporate purposes.” – Andy Meek

Though the steps are voluntary, Wal-Mart, which sells more food than any other store, has a history of using its retail muscle to change the way products are made and sold across the retail industry.

Memphis-based investment firm Highland Capital Management has merged with a Florida-based financial firm.

Highland Capital has acquired the assets of ICC Capital Management, a combination that increases client assets under management at Highland to $2.8 billion. As a result, Highland’s parent company, Louisiana-based wealth management firm Argent Financial Group, is now responsible for client assets of more than $11 billion.

A Minnesota-based real estate investment trust has acquired a large Memphis industrial portfolio for $86.3 million, one of the largest transactions ever recorded in the Memphis market.

Welsh Property Trust acquired the six-building, 2.3 million-square-foot portfolio from DCT Industrial Trust in a sale that was finalized last week. Built between 1998 and 2001, the six buildings are located in the Eastpark, Chickasaw and Southpoint Industrial Parks. The purchase price breaks down to about $37 per square foot.

A Minnesota-based real estate investment trust has acquired a large Memphis industrial portfolio for $82.6 million, one of the largest transactions ever recorded in the Memphis market.

Welsh Property Trust acquired the six-building, 2.3 million-square-foot portfolio from DCT Industrial Trust in a sale that was finalized last week. The sellers acquired the property for $22.1 million in 2011.

NEW YORK (AP) – Another major publisher has reached a multiyear deal with Amazon.com.

Amazon and Macmillan CEO John Sargent confirmed this week that they had agreed to terms for both print and electronic books. The deal will allow Macmillan to set prices for e-books, an arrangement known as the "agency model," and appears similar to agreements Amazon reached in the past two months with Hachette Book Group and Simon & Schuster. Authors at Macmillan range from Jonathan Franzen and Hilary Mantel to Oprah Winfrey and Bill O'Reilly.

Exeter Property Group recently began marketing the once-powerful retailer’s massive distribution center at 10425 Ridgewood Drive in Olive Branch for lease, a signal to some local real estate officials that Sears – which is facing significant financial and market headwinds – could be closing the center.

The bank got its start in 1934 as First Federal Savings and Loan Association, founded by a group of local Memphis bankers and businessmen.

In 1997, its name was changed to BankTennessee.
