Hot Yoga Plus, a Nashville-based yoga concept, is opening a second Memphis area location.

Hot Yoga Plus, founded by Memphian Susannah Herring, has signed a 2,015-square-foot lease at 9037 Poplar Ave. in Germantown. The new store is expected to open this fall and follows the original Memphis location in Laurelwood.

3. UPS Expanding Memphis Operations, Adding Jobs -

United Parcel Service announced Wednesday, June 25, that it had launched an expansion in Memphis that will add 350 jobs over a three-year period.

The company will add 140,000 square feet of space to its facility on Swinnea Road adjacent to Memphis International Airport. The expansion is expected to be completed in early 2016 and will increase the facility’s sorting capacity by 80 percent.

4. Commercial Real Estate Sales Up 6.1 Percent In March -

Shelby County recorded 208 commercial real estate sales in the first quarter, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

6. Industrial Portfolio Sells for $43 Million -

Affiliates of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based Exeter Property Group have paid a combined $42.9 million for a Memphis industrial portfolio.

The companies, in three separate special warranty deeds, bought the Memphis International Distribution Center at 4550 Swinnea Road in Oakhaven for $10.1 million, the warehouse at 6005 Freeport Avenue for $14.8 million and the warehouse at 3399 E. Raines Road for $18 million.

7. Tripp Logistics Renews Nonconnah Corporate Center Lease -

Shawn Glemser, founder and owner of Tripp Logistics, a locally owned and operated logistics and transportation company, has renewed his lease at Nonconnah Corporate Center. Elliot Embry and Hank Martin of NAI Saig Co. represented the landlord, Nonconnah Holdings LLC.

8. Exeter Property Group Acquires Industrial Portfolio -

Exeter Property Group has acquired a 4.4 million-square-foot industrial portfolio – including four properties in Memphis – for $132 million.

Exeter recently acquired the properties located in Memphis, Nashville and Columbus, Ohio, from LNR Property LLC, a special servicer appointed to the portfolio upon its transfer from London-based Strategic Realty Advisors Ltd. in June 2013.

9. Freeport, Raines Warehouses Sell for $19.4 Million -

Industrial properties at 6005 Freeport Avenue and 3399 E. Raines Road have sold for a combined $19.4 million in lieu of foreclosure.

12. Exeter Buys West Memphis Warehouse for $15.6 Million -

Pennsylvania-based Exeter Property Group has snatched up the Smucker’s distribution warehouse in West Memphis for $15.6 million.

The 600,000-square-foot facility was a foreclosed property from Bank of America, which was selling it with a year-end anticipated closing, said Matt Brodnik, Exeter’s director of capital markets.

13. Memphis Advantage -

As the industrial market approaches the end of the first quarter, a handful of deals have local brokers encouraged that the city’s bread-and-butter sector is poised for recovery.

Recent notable industrial leasing transactions – all of which occurred in Class A bulk warehouses – include Trane U.S. Inc.’s 625,000-square-foot lease in Chickasaw Distribution Center; Kimberly Clark Corp.’s 556,000-square-foot lease in Airways Distribution Center; and Impact Innovations’ 275,000-square-foot space at Southridge Corporate Park.

Plymouth Meeting, Penn.-based Exeter 4480 Swinnea LLC has bought a warehouse at 4480 Swinnea Road from TCAM Core Property Fund Operating LP for $10.2 million.

19. Recession Proves Tough for Medical Device Cos. -

When the Great Recession began in 2008, the health care industry was one of the few said to be recession-proof, but 2011 has proved otherwise, at least for medical device makers.

The prolonged recession, a decrease in procedure volumes and delayed reimbursement are several factors that have led to corporate restructuring – including layoffs – in the medical device industry this year.

A Seneca Falls, N.Y.-based industrial pumping system manufacturer has inked a deal for a distribution center across the parking lot from its current space in Southaven.

ITT Goulds signed a 68,508-square-foot lease in Industrial Development International Inc.’s Stateline Business Park Building C, at 8890 Commerce Drive.

The state of Tennessee Department of Safety has filed a $2.6 million permit with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to build a driver service center at 3200 E. Shelby Drive in Oakhaven.

24. Local Companies Announce Closures, Layoffs -

A little more than 80 local job losses are on the way with the imminent closure of two companies’ Memphis facilities.

CSC Applied Technologies LLC, a technology company that supports federal agencies such as the U.S. Postal Service, is shutting down its Memphis facility at 4550 Swinnea Road.

31. Medtronic Continues Work On Airport Area DC -

Medtronic Inc. this month filed two permit applications with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement totaling $3 million to make improvements to the distribution and logistics center it is building at 4380 Swinnea Road near the airport. The Minneapolis-based company’s Spinal and Biologics Business is based in Memphis.

32. Medtronic to Open New Memphis HQ -

Medtronic Inc. will hold a ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremony for its new Memphis headquarters today.

The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. at the Memphis headquarters, 1800 Pyramid Place.

Officials from the Memphis-based spinal and biologics division of Medtronic will open the doors to a new building as part of an ongoing multiyear expansion.
