1. Shelby County Residential Foreclosures Drop 22 Percent -

Foreclosures have been on a consistent downward slope in Shelby County, with newly available figures underscoring the comprehensive nature of the decline.

During third quarter 2014, the county saw 667 residential foreclosures, a 22 percent decline from the 853 filed during the same period in 2013, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

The 10th annual E-Force PowerSlam Racquetball Open to benefit the Church Health Center will be held Oct. 24-25 in Memphis.

4. FedEx Decides Not to Renew a Renaissance Center Lease -

FedEx has decided not to renew a lease at a prominent East Memphis office building.

FedEx Services is not renewing a roughly 11,000-square-foot lease at the 189,644-square-foot Renaissance Center office building at 1715 Aaron Brenner Drive that expires Oct. 1. Employees affected by the decision will be moved to FedEx facilities, part of a broader consolidation and efficiency plan the company has been pursuing.

5. Source: Horizon Under Contract To Be Purchased -

The Horizon, an uncompleted 16-story residential tower overlooking the Mississippi River on the southern end of Downtown, could change hands soon.

A yet-to-be-identified buyer is under contract to purchase the tower, according to sources familiar with the effort.

8. Green Mountain Consulting Finds Home Along Poplar -

Logistics vendor Green Mountain Consulting wasn’t necessarily looking to buy an office building when it began its search for more office space for expansion.

“We’re not getting into the commercial real estate business because we wanted to be in it; we got into it because we have a company to operate and needed the space,” said Jim Jacobs, one of Green Mountain’s co-founders.

The bulldozer went straight for the leasing office of the former Spanish Oaks apartments on Cazassa Road near Memphis International Airport.

Meanwhile another bulldozer across the two-lane road was deep into demolishing a set of buildings in the old Winchester Park apartments.

10. Renovation, Expansion Underway at Saddle Creek -

The Shops at Saddle Creek has picked up a new tenant as the lifestyle center undergoes a renovation.

Marmi Shoes has leased 1,395 square feet between Vera Bradley and Madewell at Saddle Creek. St. Louis-based Marmi Shoes offers a wide variety of women’s shoe styles and sizes with a European influence. The Saddle Creek location, the first in the Memphis area and the second in Tennessee, is expected to open in the fall.

11. Graceland Hotel Passes Crucial Hurdle -

A new hotel near Graceland has passed a key regulatory hurdle.

The Memphis-Shelby County Land Use Control Board approved a proposal from Elvis Presley Enterprises to build a 450-room hotel on the same side of Elvis Presley Boulevard as the historic Graceland mansion, one of the city’s top tourism sites.

Shelby County Schools board members got a look this week at the new digital devices students in 16 schools will get when the new academic year begins in August.

The first Lenovo Yoga and Yoga 11e convertible laptops to arrive were unwrapped before the board vote Tuesday, May 27, for the $5.4 million contract with Unistar-Sparco Computers Inc. to lease 13,000 devices for three years.

17. Graceland Hotel First Sign of Expansion Plans -

It’s been several years since executives at Elvis Presley Enterprises took an expansion plan to homeowners in Whitehaven.

The last time was when the entertainment company CKx Inc. owned 85 percent of Graceland and rolled out a $250 million plan to expand the area around Graceland into a resort setting with more hotels, restaurants and entertainment venues.

18. Graceland Files Notice for 450-Room Whitehaven Hotel -

Elvis Presley Enterprises has filed paperwork with the Land Use Control Board to move ahead with the first part of a long planned expansion of Graceland.

The filing with the LUCB Wednesday, April 30, is for construction of a 450-room hotel on the same side of Elvis Presley Boulevard as the mansion on a parcel of land EPE has owned since the mid 1990s.
