Mortgage volume countywide grew 23 percent in March compared to the same month a year ago, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com. Year over year, volume last month rose to a little more than $126 million, up from $103.1 million in March 2014, and lenders say continued low rates are one reason why.

A. Todd McCall has been named special agent in charge of the FBI’s Memphis division, one of the bureau’s 56 field offices nationwide. McCall, who most recently served as chief of the digital forensics and analysis section in the Operational Technology Division, is now responsible for the management and oversight of more than 200 personnel and all investigative matters under the FBI’s jurisdiction spanning from Memphis to Cookeville, Tenn.

Collierville-based BankTennessee is breaking ground on a new site in Lebanon, Tenn., later this month that will serve as the bank’s Middle Tennessee headquarters.

The groundbreaking on the 7,200-square-foot headquarters will happen June 25 at the property, a 1.85-acre site across from Lebanon High School. The bank’s announcement of its new presence in the town comes on the heels of a period of growth for BankTennessee, which enjoyed one of the best years in its history in 2012 and is looking to its future by focusing on the secret sauce it’s employed for almost 80 years – a commitment to local service.

Mortgage activity was a bit lackluster in Shelby County last month compared to the same time in 2012, judging by the latest data.

Looking forward, though, bankers say the demand is there, the busy season for lenders is well underway and that the purchase mortgage business is at times far outpacing demand for refinances.

Magna Bank has added investment services to its mix of offerings available for customers.

The bank now is working with Cary Allen, a representative of independent investment securities firm LPL Financial Services. Allen will be based in Magna’s Quail Hollow branch at 6525 Quail Hollow Road, but he’ll be available to meet with customers at any of Magna’s other branches if they need.
