In terms of its headcount, Memphis-based marketing communications agency archer-malmo is at a high-water mark.

The agency’s growth – in everything from its creative talent to its physical footprint and client roster – hasn’t slowed down this year. In the second quarter alone, for example, archer-malmo added seven new hires, bringing its employee roster to a record high of 160.

With a name like Screwpulp, it’s not hard to figure out how the founders of the startup feel about the current state of the publishing industry.

Screwpulp is one of six companies participating in Seed Hatchery, a tech-focused business accelerator for high-growth companies that wraps up its third season this month. Richard Billings is the founder of Screwpulp, which he and his team have built to help writers do an end run around traditional publishing outlets.

7. Archer-Malmo Grows Again With Lease Expansion -

Archer-malmo has inked an additional 3,000 square feet in the Cotton Exchange Building, bringing its total footprint in the historic 12-story Downtown tower to 41,277 square feet across six floors.

8. Palm Beach Tan to Make $86K Donation to St. Jude -

Palm Beach Tan Inc., the nationwide chain of indoor tanning salons, has raised more than $86,000 that will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

10. Iowa Company Buys Countryside Center -

An Iowa company called Aerl LC has bought the Countryside Center strip mall on U.S. 64 from Countryside Center Partnership for $2 million.

Aerl bought the 36,112-square-foot, Class A retail center Aug. 9 from a partnership whose representatives include Vickie H. Thomas and Maurice B. Buring.

11. archer>malmo Named Ninth Best Place to Work -

Advertising industry publication Advertising Age has named archer>malmo No. 9 on its Best Places to Work in Marketing & Media 2011 poll.

The list featured 30 firms nationwide. Any agency, media owner or marketer with more than 50 full-time employees was eligible.

Although the venerable marketing and communications agency archer>malmo may operate in a fiscally conservative manner, its forward-thinking concepts have kept the firm flourishing for almost 60 years.
