3. Downtown's Court Square to Feature Monster Truck -

Downtown Memphis Commission and Memphis International Raceway are teaming up to bring motorsports to Downtown Memphis.

Extreme Overkill, the first monster truck to exceed 90 mph, will be on display in Court Square on Friday, Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to kick off Memphis International Raceway’s Monster Truck Mania and Labor Day Bracket Bash Racing Extravaganza. The Court Square display will also include another monster truck from War Wizard Racing, a dragster and a racecar.

7. Motorsports Park Deeds Filed With Register -

The deed representing the sale of Memphis Motorsports Park to a limited liability company affiliated with investor Joe Lubeck has now been filed with the Shelby County Register of Deeds.

Moroso Investment Partners IV LLC bought the park from Memphis International Motorsports Corp. for $2.1 million. The deal closed Jan. 31.

8. Motorsports Park Sale Closes for $2.1 Million -

Investor Joe Lubeck has closed on Memphis Motorsports Park from Dover Motorsports Inc. for $2.1 million.

Dover Motorsports Inc. has accepted investor Joe Lubeck’s bid of $1.875 million for Memphis Motorsports Park, said Jeff Morris of Morris Auction Group LLC. After the 10 percent buyer’s premium, the total comes to $2,062,500.

Memphis Motorsports Park will soon have a new owner after being out of commission for the past year.

J. Robert Towery is just as comfortable driving on the track at Memphis Motorsports Park as he is driving along Interstate 240.

Once a professional race car driver, Towery retired after winning the 1998 International Motorsports Association's North American Sports Car Team Championship as a part of SpeedSource Race Engineering, a team he founded along with Sylvain Tremblay.
