55. Internet Sales Tax Bill Faces Tough Sell in House -

WASHINGTON (AP) – Traditional retailers and cash-strapped states face a tough sell in the House as they lobby Congress to limit tax-free shopping on the Internet.

The Senate voted 69 to 27 Monday to pass a bill that empowers states to collect sales taxes from Internet purchases. Under the bill, states could require out-of-state retailers to collect sales taxes when they sell products over the Internet, in catalogs, and through radio and TV ads. The sales taxes would be sent to the states where a shopper lives.

The owners of The Peabody hotel in Little Rock have reached an agreement to sell the property to a real estate investment firm.

The agreement announced Thursday, June 28, says that Fairwood LLC is still researching the conditions of the sale. The city of Little Rock also has to approve the transaction.

Dilbag Singh Dhaliwal and Kanwaljit Kaur have bought an auto service garage at 7555 U.S. 64 from Thomas M. Black for $1 million. The purchase was financed with an $867,000 loan through Regions Bank that matures in November 2016.

Olive Branch-based Memphis Storage VI LP has bought a self-storage facility at 8036 U.S. 70 from James C. Hise Jr. and Brenda L. Hise for $3 million. The transaction closed Oct. 25. It was financed by a $2.2 million loan through SunTrust Bank that was filed the same day and matures in November 2016.

Memphis-based Hackmeyer Properties has bought the former Prairie Life Fitness Center at 3690 S. Houston Levee Road in Collierville from Prairie Life Fitness LLC for $2.7 million and is leasing the 57,264-square-foot facility to a new fitness company.
