The owner of the Edison Apartments along Jefferson Avenue has filed a $2.5 million trust deed for the Downtown property.

Edison Park LP filed the deed of trust, assignment of rents and security agreement July 30 through American Fidelity Assurance Co. Neil E. Ringel signed the trust deed as president of Jan Realty Inc., general partner of Edison Park LP.

4. Developers Show Interest in Germantown’s Arthur Property -

A 33-acre site near Saddle Creek in Germantown is seeing increased interest from developers and could change hands as early as this year, according to a real estate agent marketing the property.

Murray Foster, a broker with Taliesyn Realty, said interest in the property owned by the heirs of Boyd Arthur Sr. picked up last year and remains strong in 2014.

10. Germantown Planning Commission OKs Plan for Whole Foods -

Developers on Tuesday, Jan. 7, cleared a key regulatory hurdle for a planned Whole Foods Market store in Germantown.

Before a packed house, the Germantown Planning Commission voted to approve a revamped plan for a new Whole Foods store at the southeast corner of the intersection of Poplar Avenue and Pete Mitchell Road, on the eastern edge of Germantown’s Central Business District.

13. Traffic Concerns Delay Germantown Whole Foods -

The development team behind a proposed Whole Foods store in Germantown is going back to the drawing board after some neighbors expressed concerns about the project, particularly over traffic.

The development team withdrew its application from the Germantown Planning Commission’s Tuesday, Dec. 3, agenda and will return next month. After that, the development team would need approval from Germantown’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

The countdown is on for the homebuyers tax credit.

With the April 30 deadline in exactly five weeks – or 25 business days – the real estate industry is kicking into high gear in hopes of drumming up sales.

47. A subtle improvement -

From declining sales to falling prices, the housing industry has been hammered recently, and nowhere is that more evident than in Memphis Area Association of Realtors membership numbers.

MAAR, the local trade organization for real estate professionals, has seen its membership dwindle steadily since its high point in August 2007, when it boasted 5,406 members. The latest numbers show membership at just 3,797, a 29.8 percent decline from its pinnacle two and a half years ago and the lowest point since 3,943 in February 2004, the last time it sat below 4,000.

71. Poor Housing Market Hurts Governments' Bottom Line -

The topsy-turvy housing market and related mortgage mess are hitting state and local governments where it hurts: right on the bottom line.

Scott A. Wright has been named chairman and CEO of Suburban Community Newspapers Group (SCN), which includes 11 weekly newspapers in the Memphis metro and north Mississippi areas. Some of the papers are The Shelby Sun Times, The Collierville Independent and The East Shelby Review. Wright previously was publisher of 17 Dallas and Ft.Worth-area daily and weekly newspapers in the Star Community Newspapers group.
