The Labor Department said Tuesday that worker productivity increased at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.3 percent, up from a drop of 1.1 percent in the first quarter. The first quarter's decline was revised sharply higher from a previous estimate of a 3.1 percent decline.

24. US Trade Gap Widens 7 Percent in June as Imports Jump -

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. trade deficit increased in June as solid consumer spending pulled in more imports, while the strong dollar restrained exports.

The Commerce Department said Wednesday the trade gap jumped 7 percent to $43.8 billion in June, up from $40.9 billion in May. Imports increased 1.2 percent to $232.4 billion, while exports edged lower to $188.6 billion from $188.7 billion.

International Paper reports its second-quarter net earnings grew while net sales for the quarter decreased slightly.

The Memphis-based company, which released its quarterly financial results Wednesday, July 29, said second-quarter net earnings totaled $227 million, or 54 cents per share. That’s up from $161 million, or 37 cents per share, in second quarter 2014, but down from $313 million, or 74 cents per share, in first quarter 2015.

The city-county Economic Development Growth Engine awarded Dayco Products Ltd. a five-year tax incentive for the distribution center, which will employ 174 workers. The average annual pay for employees would be $26,753, plus benefits.

Overall industrial production slid 0.3 percent in April after a drop of the same size in March, the Federal Reserve said Friday. The figures suggest that weakness in manufacturing and mining is weighing heavily on the economy.

92. GE Pares Off Financial Unit and Returns to Industrial Roots -

General Electric is leaving the lending business, a major source of both profit and risk, as it continues to whittle its focus down to an industrial core.

The company said Friday that it will sell most of its GE Capital assets over the next two years, shedding businesses in a sector where it has had a tough time generating acceptable returns. GE also plans to repurchase as much as $50 billion of its own stock.

Westmeath LLC, which lists an address in Albuquerque, N.M., acquired the 33,190-square-foot warehouse at 4339 S. Mendenhall Road from SE Industrial Investments LLC, according to a March 30 warranty deed. William Preston Thomas Jr. signed the deed for the seller, SE Industrial Investments LLC.

96. Volkswagen Seeks to Increase Planned Expansion by 25 Percent -

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) – Volkswagen is seeking to add to a planned expansion announced last year to produce a new sport utility vehicle in Tennessee.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/1Ggptwe) reports documents show the automaker wants to add an additional 130,153 square feet to the original expansion, 25 percent more than first planned. The additional expansion will add about $18 million to the $900 million project.

After slowing to a crawl in the years following the Great Recession, commercial real estate activity in Metropolitan Knoxville is showing signs of sustained growth.

Last year marked a solid increase in sales and leasing in the Knoxville region, and 2015 is off to a good start, according to several area real estate executives.
