12. International Paper Seeks Permit for Crosswalk -

International Paper is preparing to move forward with an exterior crosswalk connecting its new office tower to the company’s existing campus.

International Paper applied Monday, Sept. 22 for a $2.75 million building permit through the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement for the crosswalk that would span International Drive and connect the new office building at 1760 International Dr. to the Memphis-based company’s East Memphis world headquarters, which is located on Poplar Avenue just east of West Massey Road.

A Memphis contractor is planning a new office building park in the city, according to a news report.

Memphis-based construction contractor Dan Walker Associates Inc. plans to develop up to 240,000 square feet in seven buildings on nearly eight acres at 3923 Forest Hill Irene Road, according to the report in the Memphis Business Journal.

International Paper Co.’s new office tower in East Memphis is under construction now, but it’s been four years since the last speculative office building opened its doors in Memphis.

For the first time in history, the property value of the once-every-four-year reappraisal is going down, and it has some commercial real estate property owners concerned.

Although how much the value decreases won’t be official until April 20, the first formal notices of 2013 Shelby County property values for taxation purposes were mailed at the beginning of this month to owners of commercial and industrial cost properties.

The Shelby County Assessor of Property’s 2011 appraisal of the parcel was $109,200.
