1. Visionary Plan -

Southern College of Optometry is putting the finishes touches on the first of three phases of major renovations that will take place over the next decade.

“When we developed our strategic plan, we looked at what we wanted the school to look like in 10 to 15 years,” said Southern College of Optometry President Dr. Richard Phillips.

Plans are under way for additional classroom space at Southern College of Optometry.

Linkous Construction Co. Inc. has filed a $7.8 million building permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to add 6,800 square feet of first-floor space and 23,000 square feet of second-floor space, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

6. Tigyi Appointed UTHSC Physiology Chair -

Dr. Gabor Tigyi has been appointed chairman of the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC). Tigyi has been with UTHSC for 15 years. He was elected in 1984 to the 200-member Hungarian Academy of Sciences as a foreign member.

As intense as it was, the Oct. 6 early morning blaze that damaged three Downtown buildings overlooking Court Square apparently didn't extinguish plans to transform them into a $45 million mixed-use development.
