For Clyde “Kit” Carson, the road to becoming Shelby County Jury commissioner began when he was 16 years old and looking for as much time driving a car as possible.

Then-Circuit Court Clerk Clint Crabtree, who attended the same church as Carson, hired him to work in his campaign. When Carson turned 18, Crabtree hired him to work in the office. He began as a runner retrieving files from the basement of the Shelby County Courthouse.

Kroger has acquired the Belvedere Apartments in Midtown as part of a long-term project to reconfigure the grocery store’s antiquated and challenged layout.

A Class B warehouse in Airport Industrial Park has sold for $2.3 million, more than four times its price at a foreclosure sale two years ago. Northbrook, Ill.-based BCL-Memphis LLC bought the warehouse at 4049 E. Raines Road from Memphis-based Progression Realty, which paid $501,500 for it in August 2010.

Blues City Brewery LLC, an affiliate of La Crosse, Wis.-based City Brewing Co., has bought the former Hardy Bottling plant, a 40-year-old Memphis beer brewery at 5151 E. Raines Road, from Chism Hardy Enterprises LLC for $10 million. It is part of a $30 million dollar deal between City Brewing and Chism Hardy Enterprises that will bring beer brewing back to the Memphis plant.

Shuttle Prep Made For Barbecue Fest Attendees
Following Monday’s announcement that the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is moving from Tom Lee Park to Tiger Lane at the Mid-South Fairgrounds, the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau is busy making preparations for shuttle services to accommodate out-of-town attendees and teams staying in Downtown hotels.
The dates of the event will remain the same, May 12 to 14. All other aspects of the event, but the location, will be as scheduled.
Low-cost transportation will run on a continual loop from four Downtown locations to the barbecue contest from late Wednesday afternoon through Saturday evening. The shuttle locations are not yet decided but will be hotel-centric.
“We hear your requests and will definitely make our best efforts to accommodate everyone,” the Memphis In May website reads.
“We are working on shuttle transportation for those of you staying Downtown.”

The workweek began at many Memphis companies with a review of flood contingency plans.

The week ahead promises to be a challenging one.

By Monday evening, the National Weather Service had changed its forecast to keep the May 10 crest date for the Mississippi River at Memphis. But they upped the river level from 45 feet to 48 feet.

58. Barbecue Decision Next for MIM; Cordova Shelter Goes to Capacity -

The Beale Street Music Festival came to a close Sunday evening before the rains resumed. Now organizers of the month-long festival have a decision to make about whether to go forward with the barbecue-cooking contest that opens to the public May 12, two days after the river at Memphis is forecast to crest at 45 feet.

The 120,560-square-foot warehouse at 4000 Air Park Cove in Oakhaven/Parkway Village has sold for $2.6 million in a special warranty deed to an entity called Hubcap LP. The seller was ProLogis-North Carolina Limited Partnership, a division of Denver-based distribution leasing giant ProLogis.

A pair of New York-based investors has bought three apartment complexes with a history of financial troubles for a combined $4.3 million. Local entities related to buyers from Queens, N.Y., bought Graceland Manor, Winchester Oaks and McCorkle Apartments, all in Whitehaven, in separate trustees’ deeds dated May 21.

92. One Commerce Square Faces Foreclosure -

The real estate crisis has struck a blow to the Memphis skyline, hitting one of Downtown’s tallest and most iconic towers.

Trustees have filed a first-run foreclosure notice on One Commerce Square at 40 S. Main St. and will sell the 31-story building on the courthouse steps May 27. The notice appears in today’s print edition of The Daily News and also at The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

The seller was TC Air-T Industrial LLC, which acquired the property in January 2007 for $5.8 million. Memphis Air Trans financed the purchase with a $6.7 million loan through Union Bank of California NA.

96. 2 Apartment Complexes In Foreclosure -

The owners of the Winchester Oaks apartments at 1895 Winchester Road in Whitehaven and the Graceland Manor apartments at 2118 E. Raines Road in Parkway Village are in default of their loans and both complexes are scheduled to be sold in a December trustee’s sale. National Renal Alliance, which provides nephrology and dialysis services, bought the property in a special warranty deed for $200,000 from Marlin Lacey Mosby via Regions Bank.
