1. Baptist, Community Health Alliance Strike Deal -

West Tennessee residents who purchase health care insurance through Community Health Alliance beginning this fall will be directed to providers at Baptist Memorial Health Care facilities.

The exclusive agreement should be a boon for the Memphis-based Baptist system, which operates 14 hospitals in West Tennessee, North Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. The Baptist network also includes more than 4,000 affiliated physicians, a multi-specialty physician group of more than 450 providers, home, hospice and psychiatric care, and a network of surgery, rehabilitation and outpatient centers.

2. Kramer Given Crystal Award by Carwash Association -

Bruce Kramer, an attorney with Apperson Crump PLC, has been given the Crystal Award by the International Carwash Association for his 20 years of service as the association’s general counsel. Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. said 2013 will be the year his administration reopens discussions about a new convention center.

Wharton’s open question about how to compete for convention and meeting business comes five years to the month that his predecessor as mayor, Willie Herenton, talked of building a new convention center or expanding the existing one, which underwent a major renovation in 2005.

There’s something newly electric in the air. That’s how the editors of National Geographic Traveler describe Memphis, putting the city in the category of 20 must-see places in 2013.

It’s a description that came at the end of November in the form of something Memphians aren’t altogether used to – the editors of national publications nodding approvingly from afar at a city long relegated to one arbitrary ranking after another.

Two Mid-South doctors with an eye for nature photography and exotic locales opened their new art show on South Main Street last week.

The show, which features the work of Dr. Tom Gettelfinger and Dr. Bob Laster, will run through Dec. 24 at Gallery 363, at 363 S. Main St.

68. Grizzlies Ramp Up Charitable Efforts as Holidays Begin -

On the court, the Grizzlies have given away next to nothing. They reeled off an eight-game winning streak. Night after night, 48 minutes at a time, they have been stingy – selfish, even.

But off the court, the Grizzlies have embraced this holiday season of giving as though it, too, were a competition. This month, they haven’t just been making baskets but giving them away hundreds at a time: Zach Randolph distributing food baskets to families from Carver and Booker T. Washington high schools; Rudy Gay passing out foodstuffs at The Pursuit of God Power Center; and Quincy Pondexter’s food basket give-away at New Direction Christian Church/Power Center Academy as part of his ongoing “Random Acts of Q-Ness.”

88. Vanderpool Takes Reins at FAA Federal Credit Union -

Banking is not a complicated business, but it’s a hard business.

That’s what Todd Vanderpool, then-CEO of BankTennessee, told The Daily News in 2010. It was a couple years removed from the near-market collapse of 2008. But the scars of 2008 still showed up in some of Vanderpool’s general comments about the industry.

89. Harding Academy Renews Focus as School Turns 60 -

Harding Academy of Memphis celebrates its 60th anniversary this year with a renewed focus on its main campus in East Memphis on Cherry Road.

The school is wrapping up the first wave of major renovations to the campus, and more are in the early planning stages for the next few years.

90. Evans Joins American Esoteric as Vice President -

Dr. Jess Evans has joined American Esoteric Laboratories as vice president of technical operations. In his new role, Evans is responsible for instrumentation, personnel, operational performance and quality assurance for the Memphis laboratory.

91. Glosson Selected as MAAR's President-Elect -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors board of directors has selected Greg Glosson of Fast Track Realty as 2013 president-elect. Glosson has served on the board from 2011-2012 and is this year’s secretary-treasurer.

92. Starting Up -

Shawn Flynn and Ryan Ramkhelawan have, both literally and figuratively, come a long way in a few months.

They moved to Memphis recently to bring their medical industry-focused startup here and take it through the inaugural round of a new startup accelerator program, ZeroTo510. Since the end of that program – a boot camp-style mix of mentorship, networking and related instruction that came with an infusion of cash – their startup Restore Medical Solutions got a term sheet and an invitation to negotiate for a Series A round of venture capital funding.

93. Mid-South Fair Begins Sept. 21 -

The Mid-South Fair will be held Sept. 21-30 at the Landers Center in Southaven, and this year’s theme will be “Making Memories.”

Mid-South Fair President Mike McGee says this year’s fair will include entertainment, rides, food and the fair’s 59th annual Youth Talent competition, which he says is the oldest amateur youth talent competition in the country.

Members of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors elected six individuals to the 2013-2014 board of directors at its annual meeting and election Sept. 6.

They are: 2013 director/2014 vice president Patty Rainey of Crye-Leike Inc. Realtors; 2013-2014 directors Cassandra Bell-Warren of 4 Success Realty LLC, Allen Green of John Green & Co. Realtors, Joe Steffner of Grubb & Ellis/Memphis, and Hank Hogue of Crye-Leike; and 2013-2014 associate director Jason Gaia of Prudential Collins-Maury Inc.

95. Midgley Passionate About Memphis, Helping Others -

Memphis has turned out be a perfect fit for Plough Foundation program associate Katie Midgley, whose research interests landed her in the city back in 2008.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Mississippi State University, she continued her education at the University of Alabama, pursuing a master’s degree in criminology.

96. Crittenden Hospital, Methodist Reach Affiliation Agreement -

In an effort to better serve patients and foster financial stability, Crittenden Regional Hospital in West Memphis has entered into a new affiliation and consulting agreement with Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare.

97. FirstBank Looks to Grow Memphis Presence -

The third-largest bank based in Tennessee is on the move. Lexington-based FirstBank has been adding new talent to its ranks around the state, and it’s looking to do the same in Memphis.

98. Family Law Firm Home for Moskovitz -

Mitch Moskovitz, founding partner at Shea Moskovitz & McGhee PLC, who has been practicing family law in Memphis for 20 years, said he “always knew he was going to go to law school.”
