A study that divided Tennessee into three distinct regions reveals gaping differences in health problems for young children and access to care for expecting mothers.
Dr. David Mirvis, a professor of preventive medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, said while he thought the western region of the state would rank last, he did not expect the level of disparity. The findings illustrate the need for Tennessee to implement strategies targeting specific regions instead of a single state plan, he said.
