1. Boyle Sees Opportunity in East Memphis -

Memphis-based Boyle Investment Co. hopes to break ground next year on a new office building at its Ridgeway Center complex near Poplar Avenue and Shady Grove Road, according to company officials.

2. Storms Knock Out Power to 30,000 -

A storm packing winds that gusted to 50 miles an hour Monday, July 14, knocked out power to more than 30,000 people Monday evening.

The Shelby County Office of Preparedness tracked damage reports after the storm moved into the Memphis area at around 4:30 p.m. Damage reports include a tree falling on a home in the 8300 block of Burning Tree Lane and a tree blocking the intersection of Carrington near Haynes in the Orange Mound area. No one was injured in either incident.

7. Vince Vaughn Brings Comedy Festival to Nashville -

NASHVILLE (AP) – Actor Vince Vaughn is bringing a new comedy festival to Nashville this spring with live tapings and stand-up acts to be held at the city's music venues.

Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Festival on May 15-18 will include comedians Aziz Ansari, Rodney Carrington and Dennis Miller among others.

The Memphis multifamily market turned in a strong performance during 2013, with enhanced investor interest and new units under construction.

Blake Pera, senior vice president of CB Richard Ellis Memphis’ multifamily division, classified the multifamily market in 2013 as healthy and continuing to improve.

9. Apartment, Retail Markets Holding Steady -

The Memphis area multifamily and retail markets continue to chug along, with the newer, more upscale products in each sector propping up both overall markets.

10. Banks' Earnings Pop Masks Deeper Concerns -

NEW YORK (AP) – Major U.S. banks have turned in big profit gains this season, but the news isn't all good.

Much of the earnings increase is coming from cutting costs, rather than growing their core lending businesses. A boom in mortgage refinancing looks like it's about to peter out. And regulators are considering stricter new rules that would force the banks to shore up their cash.

Woburn, Mass.-based Panther Properties Investment LLC has bought a pair of Cordova apartment complexes – the Villas at Grays Creek and the Carrington at Houston Levee – for a combined $44.8 million.

13. Q2 Foreclosures Hold Steady -

Shelby County foreclosures increased slightly in the second quarter (April through June) compared to Q2 2009 but declined from the first quarter of 2010.

There were 1,384 properties seized in Q2, up 2 percent from 1,353 in Q2 2009 and down 4.3 percent from 1,446 in Q1, according to quarterly figures from real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

14. Multifamily Owner Defaults On $19.5M Loan -

In what has become a common theme in the multifamily industry, another pair of large apartment complexes will be sold on the courthouse steps.

The Waterford Pointe Apartments at 5045 Airways Blvd. in Whitehaven and the Carrington Manor Apartments at 4805 Winchester Road in Oakhaven have been foreclosed, according to a first-run notice in today’s print edition of The Daily News and also at The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

15. Luxury Apartments Under Way in Cordova -

A new multifamily product in Cordova is under way on the west side of Houston Levee Road near Pisgah Road. Stockbridge, Ga.-based Davis Development Inc. has filed a $16.2 million construction loan for Carrington Park, a 226-unit luxury apartment complex, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

17. $1.5 Million Land Transaction Heralds New Cordova Apartments -      Davis Development Inc., an apartment development company based near Atlanta, has bought two parcels on Houston Levee Road near Pisgah Road in Cordova and plans to build luxury apartment complexes on each.
