Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. has filed a $3.1 million building permit application with the city-county Office of Construction Code Enforcement to renovate its lone local store on Poplar Avenue in East Memphis.

Four reproduction Civil War cannons will be installed in Memphis’ Confederate Park, replacing real Civil War cannons that were sacrificed during World War II as part of a scrap-metal drive.

The park later displayed World War II cannons. Those were removed in 2009 to be renovated and placed in Overton Park’s Veterans Plaza.

64. Fed Survey: No Movement in Area Lending -

The local economy is inching toward improvement. A newly released report from the Federal Reserve shows the central bank’s regional district that includes Memphis saw modest improvement in residential real estate as well as the commercial real estate market since the Fed’s last survey.
