The Greater Memphis Chamber has released its latest annual list of 10 local companies to watch in the coming year. The companies – chosen for making big strides this year and for their potential for even greater things in 2014 – are: BioNanovations, Highwoods Properties Inc., International Paper Co., Kronos Energy Solutions, The Regional Medical Center at Memphis, Memphis College of Art, nexAir, Prodigi Arts, RedRover Sales & Marketing and Victory Packaging.

Charleson Bell thought he and his associates had a solid business model for the startup they launched last year called BioNanovations, which is developing devices that use bionanotechnology for quickly diagnosing bacterial infections.

7. Starting Up -

Shawn Flynn and Ryan Ramkhelawan have, both literally and figuratively, come a long way in a few months.

They moved to Memphis recently to bring their medical industry-focused startup here and take it through the inaugural round of a new startup accelerator program, ZeroTo510. Since the end of that program – a boot camp-style mix of mentorship, networking and related instruction that came with an infusion of cash – their startup Restore Medical Solutions got a term sheet and an invitation to negotiate for a Series A round of venture capital funding.

8. Investor Day Arrives for ZeroTo510 -

The first entrepreneurs to go through the ZeroTo510 business accelerator program are 24 hours away from their moment of truth.

Six medical-focused startups that participated in the first phase of the entrepreneurship boot camp, launched earlier this year by Memphis Bioworks Foundation and Innova, will pitch their concepts to investors Thursday, Aug. 16, in the hope of securing funding that takes them to the next level.
