11. Triumph Bank Improved Earnings Picture in 2012 -

Memphis-based Triumph Bank saw a 28 percent gain in its pretax income in 2012 compared to 2011.

Triumph reported year-end pre-tax income of $3.5 million for 2012, up from about $2.7 million at year-end 2011.

23. Ticket Rush: Film Fans Hand Hollywood Record Cash -

LOS ANGELES (AP) – The big deal for Hollywood is not the record $10.8 billion that studios took in domestically in 2012. It's the fact that the number of tickets sold went up for the first time in three years.

24. Crews Ventures Lab Close to 2013 Launch -

The University of Memphis’ Crews Ventures Lab program, a business start-up facilitator and incubator, is well on its way toward launching in 2013.

Already the program, which is still in the development stage, nearly has reached its $2 million fundraising goal. It’s also opening a dedicated space in August, which will provide a place for University of Memphis-based technology startups to be built and launched.

25. Triumph Bank Reports 15th Straight Profit -

Triumph Bank has enjoyed one of the most consistent success stories among Memphis-area community banks.

Triumph, which was founded in 2005, has reported its 15th straight quarterly profit, meaning even 2008’s Great Recession was not enough to ding Triumph’s prospects.

26. Bank Profits Shrink in Third Quarter -

Memphis-area banks on the whole were a lot less profitable at the end of the third quarter than they were during the same period in 2011.

The two dozen or so banks in the Memphis market reported a little more than $12 million in year-to-date net income at the end of the third quarter, according to data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. That’s a big drop from the $136.3 million in year-to-date net income the same banks collectively reported in the third quarter of 2011.

31. Triumph Bank Turns in Another Profit -

It’s hiring, making plenty of new loans, growing its pool of assets, opening new offices – and enjoying a now long-unbroken run in profitability.

Triumph Bank’s latest quarterly numbers are in, and the result is the bank ending comfortably in the black for the 14th straight quarter. The bank in recent weeks presented its second quarter financials to shareholders. And they included raising more than $12 million in new capital, money that was used to purchase investments and for other general corporate purposes.

84. FDIC: Banks Inch to Profitability -

In the first three months of 2011, Tennessee’s banking industry shed workers, got smaller and reported surging profits.

That’s according to newly released figures from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., which show that almost 60 percent, or 107, of Tennessee’s 190 federally insured banks reported a pickup in earnings in the first quarter.
