1. Minyard Joins Barge Waggoner -

Tom Minyard, a 31-year veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has joined Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon Inc. as the civil works program manager. In his new role, Minyard’s responsibilities include the advancement of the firm’s strategic direction as it relates to its civil works program for local, state and federal governments. His areas of technical interest include flood risk reduction, navigation, ecosystem restoration and emergency response.

2. Economic Gardening Trial Program Helps Companies Kick Start Growth -

Tioga Environmental Consultants is a Memphis-based company founded in 2009 that’s been growing fast in certain service areas.

To make sure it keeps that growth from getting too frothy, Tioga is leaning on a team from the Memphis and Shelby County Economic Gardening trial program, a business-building initiative of which Tioga is one of the newest participants.

3. Gonitzke Named CEO of National Foundation for Transplants -

Connie Gonitzke has been appointed president and CEO of the National Foundation for Transplants. Gonitzke joined the Memphis-based organization in 2002 as a patient advocate. In 2006, she was named director of resource development, and in 2008, she became the senior vice president of development.

4. Green Growth -

Tioga Environmental Consultants is adding new staff and ramping up for an increased workload, due at least in part to new commercial regulations expected next year on lead-based paint in commercial facilities.

5. Kramer Given Crystal Award by Carwash Association -

Bruce Kramer, an attorney with Apperson Crump PLC, has been given the Crystal Award by the International Carwash Association for his 20 years of service as the association’s general counsel. The association, which was started in Memphis in 1955, is comprised of 15,000 professional car wash operators, retailers and suppliers in 25 nations.

6. Tioga Offers Public, Private Environmental Solutions -

Tioga Environmental Consultants Inc., based in Memphis, has been providing common sense solutions to government regulation standards for public and private sectors in Tennessee and Mississippi since early December 2009, when Maggie Strom and Mike Donohoe opened the business.

7. BP Oil Spill Provides Opportunities for Change -

What great news! After 85 days and millions of gallons of oil spilling into the waters off Louisiana’s coast, the flow has been stopped.

Everyone’s hopeful this or some similar “controlled” condition will last. Time will tell. Assuming it does, those who have been working tirelessly on the containment and recovery of the oil will be able to see light at the end of the tunnel. A final amount of oil will have been spilled and a final amount will eventually be recovered. You know they will not be the same number and they will not be close.
