Business licenses filed with the Shelby County Clerk’s Office in the third quarter rose nearly 5 percent over third quarter 2012, and increased even more compared to the second quarter this year, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

3. California Investor Buys Airways Villas Complex -

An affiliate of Foothill Ranch, Calif.-based West Egg Enterprises has paid $1.8 million for the 182-unit Airways Villas Apartments at 2305 Pendleton St. in the Defense Depot area.

4. US Housing Starts Surpass 1 Million in March -

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. homebuilders broke the 1 million mark in March for the first time since June 2008. The gain signals continued strength for the housing recovery at the start of the spring buying season.

5. Local Resident Named Land Realtor of America -

Keith Morris of 4M Land Co. in Somerville was honored with the 2005 Land Realtor of America award by the Realtors Land Institute. Morris, current president of the Tennesseen RLI chapter, is the first Tennessean to receive the award. He graduated from the University of Memphis.
