The Habitat for Humanity of Greater Memphis ReStore is feeling the holiday love.

The store’s November “Go North ReStock the ReStore” event brought in a large number of donations and the Hickory Hill store recorded $10,673 in sales the day of the event, the store’s biggest day of sales so far this fiscal year. In addition, November Web traffic was more than double that of November 2013.

4. Shelby County Home Sales Slow in November -

After an unusually strong October for home sales, activity in Shelby County cooled in November.

Memphis and Shelby County home sales were down 7.8 percent in November, with 1,034 sales recorded for the month, compared with 1,115 recorded in November 2013, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

5. Anixter Moving Memphis Distribution Operations -

A leading supplier of communications and security products, electrical and electronic wire and cable, fasteners and other small components is relocating to a new Memphis distribution center.

Anixter International Inc., which is based in the Chicago area, has leased 100,000 square feet at 4001 Hickory Hill Road inside Memphis Distribution Center. Anixter will be relocating from 4580 S. Mendenhall Road, where DDN is expanding.

Another building inside Willow Lake Business Park and Corporate Park in Hickory Hill has been sold for $1.9 million.

Willow Lake Business Park LLC acquired 3592 Willow Lake Blvd. from 198-6 Memphis Industrial Portfolio Holdings LLC, which is affiliated with Bethesda, Md.-based special servicer CWCapital Asset Management, according to an Oct. 13 warranty deed.

8. Two Willow Lake Buildings Sold for $1.9 Million -

Two buildings inside Willow Lake Business Park and Corporate Park in Hickory Hill have been sold for $1.9 million.

Eagle Capital LLC acquired 3900 Willow Lake Blvd. and 4100 Willow Lake Blvd. from 198-6 Memphis Industrial Portfolio Holdings LLC, which is affiliated with Bethesda, Md.-based special servicer CWCapital Asset Management LLC, according to an Oct. 13 warranty deed.

Year to date, business licenses are ahead of 2013’s pace but there were fewer licenses issued through the Shelby County Clerk’s Office in the third quarter of 2014 than from the same period in 2013.

Fueled by a steep drop in bank sales, Shelby County home sales slowed slightly in the third quarter compared to the same three-month period in 2013.

There were a total of 486 bank sales in the quarter, as opposed to 752 in the same period last year, a decrease of 35 percent, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

Shelby County home sales plummeted in August when compared to the same month last year. Realtors sold 1,235 homes in Shelby County in August, down a staggering 28 percent from 1,705 home sales in August 2013, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, chandlerreports.com.

47. This week in Memphis history: February 28-March 3 -

2013: A group of 61 Ku Klux Klan members along with neo-Nazis and Aryan Nations members rallied at the Shelby County Courthouse to protest the plan by the City Council to rename three Confederate-themed parks. The massive police response included 400 law enforcement officers in riot gear, a chain link fence around the Klan protestors and another chain link fence two blocks away around a group of 1,200 counter protestors and curious onlookers. One counter protestor was arrested.

Affiliates of Plymouth Meeting, Pa.-based Exeter Property Group have paid a combined $42.9 million for a Memphis industrial portfolio.

The companies, in three separate special warranty deeds, bought the Memphis International Distribution Center at 4550 Swinnea Road in Oakhaven for $10.1 million, the warehouse at 6005 Freeport Avenue for $14.8 million and the warehouse at 3399 E. Raines Road for $18 million.

56. January 31-February 6: This week in Memphis history -

1974: A nine-member delegation from the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce began a visit to four cities in Japan at the invitation of the Japanese government. The visit to Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Nara led to the opening of the Sharp manufacturing plant in Hickory Hill four years later.
The four-city visit was billed as a chance to exchange opinions “on a broad range of matters and problems of mutual interest.” But Chamber chief executive officer Ronald E. Leigh also had talks scheduled, according to The Daily News, “with one corporation that has had representatives here on four occasions,” including the week before the Memphis delegation left for Japan.
That corporation was Sharp Corp. The plant, which in the beginning made color televisions, was a breakthrough for direct foreign business investment in Tennessee and Memphis.
