3. First Contract for Main to Main Connector Vetted -

The first contract in the $35 million Main to Main Connector project was approved Wednesday, Sept. 18, by a project coordinating committee.

The $1.9 million contract with Ferrell Paving Inc. of Memphis is the connection of South Main Street to the Harahan Bridge and a pedestrian and bicycle walkway on the bridge that is another phase of the project. The work will better light and improve and install sidewalks as well as add street markings to Carolina Avenue.

Just a few feet beyond the Tennessee-Mississippi state line past the Fayette County line on U.S. 72 is the turn onto Cayce Road in Byhalia and what is soon to be the first U.S. plant of the Danish company Roxul Inc.

5. Perl Retires From Airport Board -

The Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority will begin the next year with an empty chairman’s seat as Arnold Perl retired Thursday, Dec. 20, after 31 years of service, including 16 years as the committee’s chairman.

6. Road Project Will Enhance Local Logistics Assets -

Construction is barreling forward on the Paul Lowry Road project, which will provide better access to the Frank C. Pidgeon Industrial Park south of Downtown.

The six-month project began in June, and a completion date is on target for the second week of December.

7. Wharton Presents Budget to Council -

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. takes his budget proposal to the Memphis City Council at the Tuesday, April 17, council session.

Faced with a $37 million gap between expenditures and revenue in the fiscal year that begins July 1, Wharton is expected to do what he has done in past budget presentations – offer the council a menu of options.
