3. Memphis Bar Judicial Poll Released -

The Memphis Bar Association poll of attorneys on the judicial races on the Aug. 7 ballot shows 16 percent to as high as 38 percent of the attorneys participating have no opinion in many of the judicial races.

4. Harris Files Ford Challenge at Deadline -

Memphis City Council member Lee Harris is challenging Democratic state Sen. Ophelia Ford in the August primary for District 29, the Senate seat held by a member of the Ford family since 1975.

5. Meadows Appointed to State Dentistry Board -

Dr. Dan T. Meadows has been appointed to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry by Gov. Bill Haslam. Meadows, who has a private practice on Walnut Grove Road, will serve as the Rotating Dentist member through June 2016.

8. CashSaver Trades Hands for $3.2 Million -

The CashSaver in Midtown has traded hands. 

Kansas City, Kan.-based Super Market Developers Inc. bought the 69,017-square-foot building at 1620 Madison Ave. at Avalon Street from 1620 Madison LLC for $3.2 million. Fred Monks III, president/chief manager of 1620 Madison LLC, signed the special warranty deed.

13. Congress Has Little Appetite For Health Care Taxes -

WASHINGTON (AP) – It’s the toughest question of all in the debate over revamping the nation’s health care system – how to pay for expanding coverage to nearly 50 million uninsured people.

Ask lawmakers about raising taxes and the responses range from emphatic opposition to noncommittal statements about “putting everything on the table.”

16. Developers Ask for Bailout As Massive Debt Looms -

With a record amount of commercial real-estate debt coming due, some of the country’s biggest property developers have become the latest to go hat-in-hand to the government for assistance.

They’re warning policymakers that thousands of office complexes, hotels, shopping centers and other commercial buildings are headed into defaults, foreclosures and bankruptcies. The reason: $530 billion of commercial mortgages will be coming due for refinancing in the next three years – with about $160 billion maturing in the next year, according to research firm Foresight Analytics LCC. Credit, meanwhile, is practically nonexistent and cash flows from commercial property are siphoning off.
