Helen of Troy Ltd., a manufacturer and distributor of household products, has finalized plans to build a 1.3 million-square-foot distribution facility in Olive Branch.
The $37 million facility will be constructed on a 77-acre site in the Whispering Woods development on Polk Lane in DeSoto County. CB Richard Ellis Memphis brokers Patrick Burke, Tommy Jackson and Jim Mercer represented Panattoni Development Co. in the land sale and build-to-suit negotiations to Helen of Troy, which closed on Dec. 28.

Levenger has inked 96,400 square feet in EastPark Distribution Center IV, 5265 Hickory Hill Road, bringing the 372,800-square-foot building to full occupancy. Levenger also has an operation at 3530 E. Raines Road.

Five months into the city's new Storm Water Enterprise Fund, the new fees are bringing in about $1 million each month, said Jerry Collins, director of public works for Memphis.
The fees became effective May 1, and show up as an extra charge on the Memphis Light, Gas & Water Division bills of both residential and commercial property owners. The fees collected through the storm water fund will pay for $140 million worth of improvements to the storm water drainage system in Memphis.

James Bolden, director of Homeland Security for District 11, answered that question earlier this month when the department rolled out a plan to blanket Downtown Memphis with security cameras that target bridges, roads and the Mississippi River. The announcement was made June 22, but Bolden - whose district includes Shelby, Fayette, Lauderdale, Tipton, DeSoto and Crittenden counties - had been planning the security effort since February.
