3. If Government Backs In-Flight Calls, Will the Airlines? -

NEW YORK (AP) – The Federal Communications Commission might be ready to permit cellphone calls in flight. But what about the airlines?

Old concerns about electronics being a danger to airplane navigation have been debunked. And airlines could make some extra cash charging passengers to call a loved one from 35,000 feet. But that extra money might not be worth the backlash from fliers who view overly chatty neighbors as another inconvenience to go along with smaller seats and stuffed overhead bins.

4. Obama Says Talks OK – After Default Threat Averted -

WASHINGTON (AP) – After weeks of gridlock, House Republicans floated broad hints Tuesday they might be willing to pass short-term legislation re-opening the government and averting a default in exchange for immediate talks with the Obama administration on reducing deficits and changing the three-year-old health care law.

5. Tricky Obstacles Ahead to Averting Shutdown -

WASHINGTON (AP) – Despite pressure from some liberal Democrats for a September showdown in hopes of ending huge automatic, government-shrinking spending cuts, Washington appears on track to avert what would be the first government shutdown in nearly two decades.

6. White Joins BankTennessee As Mortgage Specialist -

Judy Sulton White has joined BankTennessee as a mortgage loan specialist. White has worked in the mortgage industry for 30 years and will focus on new-home financing options, mortgage refinances and custom construction loans.

Lyle Wardlaw has joined full-service advertising, marketing, design and public relations firm inferno as art director. Prior to that she spent three years providing design support for clients at Imre Communications and Babcock Advertising in the Washington, D.C., area. She graduated from Millsaps College in 1996 with a double major in studio art and elementary education, and has completed advertising and graphics programs from Memphis College of Art and Southwest Community College. In her position as art director, Wardlaw will serve clients and help with new creative projects.
