Sean Henneberger has joined First State Bank’s small-business lending division as vice president/business development officer in the Memphis market. In his new role, Henneberger will help small businesses pursue loans through the U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Agriculture Business and Industry Guaranteed Loan Program.

4. Beale’s ‘Silky’ Sullivan Dies After Sudden Illness -

Thomas “Silky” Sullivan, whose bars in Overton Square and on Beale Street were a part of Memphis nightlife for 40 years, died Friday, May 31, after a sudden illness.

Sullivan was proprietor and front man of Silky Sullivan’s in Overton Square during the 1970s and into the 1980s. It was there that Sullivan prominently displayed his Irish heritage as well as his gift for blarney and a potent drink served in a plastic pale called the “Diver.”

14. Pera to Serve on Advisory Board Of Miller-Becker Institute -

Lucian T. Pera, a partner at the Memphis office of Adams and Reese LLP, has been invited to serve on the Advisory Board of the Miller-Becker Institute for Professional Responsibility.

The Institute provides programs and activities to enhance ethical awareness among those who practice, adjudicate, teach and study law.

15. Business Licenses up in Q3 -

Business license filings grew during the third quarter, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

The 1,896 licenses filed with the Shelby County Clerk represent a 30 percent increase over second quarter filings and a 3 percent increase from the same period last year, when 1,834 business licenses were filed.

Dr. Dava F. Gerard has been appointed administrator for the Methodist Healthcare Cancer Center. She previously was the founding vice president and chief operating officer of the Nevada Cancer Institute in Las Vegas.

Michael Grey Jones, Chris Root and Karen Cauthen have received LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) accreditation. Jones is an architect for Johnson Bailey Henderson NcNeel Architects, and Root and Cauthen are architectural interns. Created by the U.S. Green Building Council, the LEED Green Building Rating System is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings.
