1. Shelby County Home Sales Rise 10 Percent in October -

Home sales activity in Memphis and Shelby County certainly wasn’t spooky in October, with sales up 10 percent compared to the same month a year ago.

Memphis and Shelby County recorded 1,479 homes sales, up 10 percent from 1,343 in October 2013, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com. The 1,479 homes sold in October is down 4 percent from 1,543 in September.

2. Silver Lining -

Fueled by a steep drop in bank sales, Shelby County home sales slowed slightly in the third quarter compared to the same three-month period in 2013.

There were a total of 486 bank sales in the quarter, as opposed to 752 in the same period last year, a decrease of 35 percent, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

3. Home Sales Spike Surprises Realtors -

In welcome – if not slightly surprising – news for the local housing market, home sales jumped in September as housing values continued to rise, providing a measure of relief for a market that has endured slower-than-expected activity.

4. MAAR Elects New Board Members -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors recently elected several new members to the organization’s board of directors.

Felix Bishop of Crye-Leike Realtors Inc., Deborah Williams of 4 Success Realty LLC, Lauren Harkins-Wiuff of Crye-Leike, David Tester of Marx-Bensdorf Realtors, John Mercer of Highwoods Properties and Albert Lee of Century 21 Maselle & Associates were selected to be 2015-2016 board members.

5. MAAR Elects New Board Members -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors recently elected several new members to the organization’s board of directors.

Steve Brown, Crye-Leike Realtors Inc. Memphis general manager, and other Realtors remember a time when the headquarters for the Memphis Area Association of Realtors had a bank of telephones along a wall that Realtors in the field flocked to in order to check in with the office.

7. MAAR’s New MLS System Designed for Mobile Users -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors had a system that allowed members to access its Multiple Listing Service on mobile devices, but users sometimes had to jump through sizable hoops to connect with the system while in the field.

8. Market Mystery -

Over the last several years, investors ranging from mom-and-pop shops to large hedge funds have been acquiring single-family homes in Memphis at a historic pace.

But determining the long-term impact that investor purchases have made on neighborhoods remains elusive.

9. Signs of Life -

Home sales activity picked up in the first quarter of this year across the Mid-South, and brokers believe the market recovery is gaining traction.

Shelby County home sales rose 6 percent during the first quarter, with 3,382 sales from January to March compared to 3,179 during the first quarter of 2012, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

10. October Home Sales Rise 36 Percent -

The Shelby County housing market continues to improve with 1,407 home sales recorded in October, up 36 percent from the 1,034 sales tallied in October 2011.

And year-to-date home sales activity is up 18 percent, with 12,585 sales recorded through October, according to real estate information company Chandler Reports, www.chandlerreports.com.

11. Glosson Selected as MAAR's President-Elect -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors board of directors has selected Greg Glosson of Fast Track Realty as 2013 president-elect. Glosson has served on the board from 2011-2012 and is this year’s secretary-treasurer.

12. Literacy Mid-South’s Dean Appointed to State Coalition -

Kevin Dean, executive director of Literacy Mid-South, has been appointed to the Tennessee Literacy Coalition’s board of directors. The board unanimously approved Dean’s nomination, and he will serve as a representative from West Tennessee for three years.

13. Hubbard Selected to Serve as MAAR President-Elect -

Regina Hubbard of Lester Hubbard Realtors has been selected as the 2012 president-elect of the Memphis Area Association of Realtors after a vote by the 2011 and 2012 board of directors Wednesday, Sept. 21.

14. Birch Tree Realty Merges with Hackmeyer Properties -

Thomas Murphree and the residential agents Birch Tree Realty Resources Inc. have joined forces with Hackmeyer Realty, owned and managed by Tanis Hackmeyer.

15. MAAR Presents 2010 Realtor Awards -

The Memphis Area Association of Realtors has named Mary Sharp of Crye-Leike Inc. Realtors as its Realtor of the Year.
