WASHINGTON (AP) – Republican Sen. Bob Corker is spending a lot of time lately talking to Democrats.

The freshman lawmaker from Tennessee unveiled his own 10-year, $4.5 trillion solution for averting the end-of-year, double economic hit of automatic tax hikes and spending cuts and then spoke briefly last week with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner. Deficit-cutting maven Erskine Bowles had forwarded Corker's proposal to White House Chief of Staff Jack Lew.

Susan Akil Ewing has been named partner at Tactical Magic. Ewing joined the firm as a marketing strategist in 2010 after 18 years in the field, where she held executive positions at local advertising agencies, including Thompson & Co. and inferno.

4. Three Memphis Firms Honored In 2010 Best Lawyers -

Three Memphis law firms have attorneys who have been honored in the 2010 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart PC had four attorneys from its Memphis office honored: Donna K. Fisher, Thomas L. Henderson, Charles V. Holmes and Frederick J. Lewis were named to the list as top lawyers in labor and employment law. All four previously have been recognized by Best Lawyers.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted overwhelmingly on Thursday for Hillary Rodham Clinton to become the next secretary of state, with lawmakers saying they were hopeful her leadership would mark a turn from warfare toward diplomacy.
