1. CashSaver Trades Hands for $3.2 Million -

The CashSaver in Midtown has traded hands. 

Kansas City, Kan.-based Super Market Developers Inc. bought the 69,017-square-foot building at 1620 Madison Ave. at Avalon Street from 1620 Madison LLC for $3.2 million. Fred Monks III, president/chief manager of 1620 Madison LLC, signed the special warranty deed.

2. They Really Did Write That! -

Re: The column in which I quoted lawyers’ courtroom and deposition questions and statements. Ron Curlin of Memphis writes, “Without question, this is the most hilarious column you’ve ever done. It has brightened my day tremendously! As far as I’m concerned, you have set a precedent with this one, and I fully expect to see more ‘Did They Really Say That?’ columns chosen from the attorney’s side of the proceedings. Thank you for making my day. Keep up the excellent work.”

3. Accolades for Stuff Reprinted -

For the past two weeks I’ve quoted from “Real Lawyers Do Change Their Briefs” (1989), a book that's more than 20 years old.

Those passages from that book generated several calls of commendation, for which I thank the callers. But, as should be self-evident, other writers deserve the praise.

4. Memphis Music Foundation Elects Bell Chairman -

Al Bell has been elected the new chairman of the Memphis Music Foundation.
Under Bell’s direction, the foundation will continue to provide education, strategic planning and promotional opportunities to the Memphis music industry.
Bell is the former chairman and owner of Stax Records and former president of Motown Records. Bell has worked with artists such as Booker T and the MG’s, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Albert King, Rufus Thomas, Isaac Hayes and Richard Pryor.

5. UT’s Hathaway Named To Ruth Neil Murry Endowed Chair -

Dr. Donna Hathaway has been named to the Ruth Neil Murry Endowed Chair in Nursing at the University of Tennessee College of Nursing.

6. Pera to Serve on Advisory Board Of Miller-Becker Institute -

Lucian T. Pera, a partner at the Memphis office of Adams and Reese LLP, has been invited to serve on the Advisory Board of the Miller-Becker Institute for Professional Responsibility.

The Institute provides programs and activities to enhance ethical awareness among those who practice, adjudicate, teach and study law.

7. Still in the Game: While He Heads Into Semi-Retirement, Gibson Remains Active -

Walking into Gene Gibson's office is kind of like entering an exhibit in the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Visitors are greeted by a Tom Pagnozzi jersey with a personalized message and signature by the former St. Louis Cardinals catcher, who happens to be one of Gibson's best friends.
