2. Dollywood to Build Resort, Add Shows and Rides -

NASHVILLE (AP) – To see the future of Dollywood, you need to borrow the vision of its chief imaginer, Dolly Parton.

In the near future, Parton sees a resort hotel lobby with a three-story window that frames Mount LeConte – one of the tallest peaks in the Smoky Mountains. Guests will be able to book a grand suite in the hotel that the entertainer uses when she stays in the Pigeon Forge theme park that bears her name.

When the first school year of the consolidated school system begins Aug. 5, the new school system will open its first new school.

And most of what are now city and county schools will have the same grade structures for elementary, middle and high schools.

4. Four Memphis Schools To Become ADA Compliant -

As children enjoy their summer vacations, Memphis Board of Education officials are planning to make some needed repairs to their schools.

Bids are being accepted for upgrades on alternative classrooms at Oakhaven High School on Ladbrook Avenue and are part of a package that will make four city schools Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant, according to The Daily News Online, www.memphisdailynews.com.

Katie Wassmer has been promoted to account executive at Thompson & Berry Public Relations, a division of Thompson & Co. Wassmer has been with Thompson & Berry for two years. She joined the company as an intern. Wassmer graduated from the University of Memphis in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in journalism/public relations.

6. Charter School Buys Property to Expand -

For the state of Tennessee, at least, Memphis is the birthplace of the charter school. The movement to get charter legislation passed gained much of its steam through the Hyde Foundation, which helped to support and guide the process.
