PHILADELPHIA (AP) – Once a niche business, locally grown foods aren't just for farmers markets anymore.

A growing network of companies and organizations is delivering food directly from local farms to major institutions like Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in downtown Philadelphia, eliminating scores of middlemen from farm to fork. Along the way, they're increasing profits and recognition for smaller farms and bringing consumers healthier, fresher foods.

2. Guscette Named Sales Representative at P.O.P. Solutions -

Ally Guscette has been promoted to sales representative at Germantown-based brand-marketing firm P.O.P. Solutions Group LLC. In her new role, Guscette will help businesses develop brand awareness through promotional products, press kits, print materials and point-of-purchase displays. She joined the company in 2011 as part of a sales team and begins Germantown Leadership training this month.

3. Johnston Finds Life’s Passion With Real Estate Career -

Lexie Johnston likes to stay busy – almost to a fault. “I’m pretty restless. In fact, when things get hard, I usually find something else to do,” said the 29-year-old.

The hustle and bustle of the real estate business was instantly attractive to the native Memphian, so much so that she’s stuck it out for three years in a down economy.

Virginia Weaver has been appointed medical director of the Saint Francis Center for Surgical Weight Loss.

5. Warren Named Bursar At University of Memphis -

Carol Warren has accepted the position of bursar in the Division of Business & Finance at the University of Memphis. Warren is a graduate of the University of Memphis and has experience in student financial service operations working for the U of M previously as the assistant bursar. Before joining the university, Warren spent several years in the Loan Division at First Tennessee Bank.

6. Campbell Clinic's Hernandez Named Fellow of Health Care Org -

George Hernandez, chief financial officer at Campbell Clinic, recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Hernandez joined Campbell Clinic in 1995 as CFO. He is also a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and is a certified health care financial professional with a specialization in financial management of physician practices.

7. Crone Named Fellow of Memphis Bar Foundation -

Alan Crone, attorney and co-founder of Crone & Mason PLC, has been named a fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation. The appointment was made at the annual joint meeting of the Memphis Bar Association and its charitable arm, the Memphis Bar Foundation, Sept. 11.
