8. University Recognizes Innovations at Health Science Center -

The University of Tennessee Research Foundation has recognized the work of professors at UT Health Science Center who are inventing new drugs, vaccinations, medical devices and research tools.

The “Innovation Awards” luncheon ceremony earlier this week was a celebration of scientific achievements at the Memphis campus and also a call to action. Increasingly, university officials are identifying the licensing of scientific discoveries as way to offset state funding cuts.

Two professors from Memphis have invented a drug coating that may prevent infections in people with medical implants.

The technology is receiving attention from health academics and investors.

10. Crone Named Fellow of Memphis Bar Foundation -

Alan Crone, attorney and co-founder of Crone & Mason PLC, has been named a fellow of the Memphis Bar Foundation. The appointment was made at the annual joint meeting of the Memphis Bar Association and its charitable arm, the Memphis Bar Foundation, Sept. 11. 11. Med Nurse Earns State Leadership Award -

The Tennessee Nurses Association recognized Dr. Diane Todd Pace with the Alma E. Gault Leadership Award. Pace is a nurse practitioner/nurse scientist with the Regional Medical Center at Memphis/Health Loop Clinics. She earned a doctorate from the University of Tennessee.
