3. Fresh Market Eyes Midtown Property for New Store -

The Fresh Market, the upscale specialty grocery store, has had its sights on Midtown Memphis for some time and may have found the right address.

The Greensboro, N.C.-based grocer and retailer is eyeing the vacant office building and hotel at the southwest corner of Union Avenue and McLean Boulevard, according to several sources, who said the property is under contract to be purchased.

4. Family: Slain Mayoral Candidate Beaten, Burned -

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – The body of a slain Mississippi mayoral candidate was beaten and burned, a family member said Monday.

Marco McMillian's godfather, Carter Womack, said McMillian's family received the information from the Coahoma County coroner. Coroner Scotty Meredith declined to comment Monday, and a spokesman for the Coahoma County Sheriff's Department had no immediate comment.

5. Brooks Unreels Film Series -

The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art this month continues a long-running tradition of adding moving pictures to its collection of visual arts with a series of independent films meant to warm up cold January nights.
