1. Scharff Elected to Legal Roles at Buckman, Bulab Holdings -

Jonathan Scharff has been elected vice president, legal and general counsel for Buckman and corporate secretary for Bulab Holdings Inc., Buckman’s parent company. Scharff has more than 22 years’ experience in the legal industry, including positions at Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale PC in St. Louis and Harris Shelton Hanover Walsh PLLC in Memphis. In his new position, he will oversee legal needs in U.S. and global operating companies and work with associates in preventing and managing legal risks.

2. Crowder Joins MCCA To Manage New Product Line -

Mack Crowder has joined Memphis Consumer Credit Association as director of business continuity and risk. In his new role, Crowder will manage the start-up and growth of a new product line of business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for MCCA.

3. County Bankruptcy Filings Fall Slightly -

The total number of bankruptcies filed in Shelby County has slowly declined over the last two years.

All chapters combined – Chapters 7, 11 and 13 – amounted to 2,904 Shelby County bankruptcies in the second quarter of 2011, down 1.2 percent from 2,939 in Q2 2010 and down 5 percent from 3,056 in Q2 2009.

On Thursday, May 26, SONFISH LLC, 5858 Ridgeway Center Parkway, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Tennessee.

5. Former Harrah’s HQ Sells on Courthouse Steps -

The two-parcel, three-building portfolio at 1023 Cherry Road in East Memphis was once an exclusive office complex that housed a prominent local corporation, Harrah’s Entertainment. But the property suffered an ignominious – yet all too familiar – fate Monday when it was sold on the courthouse steps following a foreclosure.
