Commercial real estate firm Investec Realty Services has broadened its reach beyond the Memphis market thanks to a partnership with the international network of Sperry Van Ness.

A recent franchise affiliation increases the company’s footprint from 10 brokers in Tennessee to more than 700 affiliates in 145 markets, plus another 35,000 brokers who subscribe to the Sperry Van Ness network.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – Count your blessings, then get to work.

That may be Thanksgiving for more retail workers this year, as stores desperate to pull in buyers on the first weekend of the holiday shopping season push their openings earlier and earlier. Unhappy workers who say it ruins their Thanksgiving celebrations are trying to persuade companies to back off, but retailers say they're stuck: It's what customers want.

8. Dunkin’ Donuts Franchisee to Open East Memphis Store -

Dunkin’ Donuts is entering the prime East Memphis trade area with the sixth store in the Memphis area.

Franchisee Akshar Mendenhall Inc., doing business as Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin Robbins, has signed a 2,700-square-foot lease at 5150 Poplar Ave. on the northwest corner of Poplar and Brookhaven Circle East. This will be his fifth store.

Kent H. Landsberg Co. has finally inked a deal that had been in the works for quite some time.

Landsberg, a packaging, janitorial and food service shipping supply company, stayed in Memphis and expanded when it purchased Wurzburg Inc., a Memphis-based provider of supply-chain logistics and packaging.

13. Stephens Named Executive Director Of Exceptional Foundation of West Tenn. -

Jeni Stephens has been named the executive director of the Exceptional Foundation of West Tennessee.

Stephens was appointed following a national search conducted by the EFWT.

She joins the EFWT with a 14-year background in nonprofit administration. She most recently served as deputy director of development for the Pink Palace Family of Museums. She also has served as director of marketing and development for the Memphis Bioworks Foundation and the Memphis Academy of Science in Engineering.

14. Home Sales, Prices Down Again in South -

MIAMI (AP) - Existing home sales in Southern states fell more than 10 percent in October compared to the same month a year ago, while the median sales price dropped nearly 6 percent to $161,000, the National Association of Realtors reported Monday.

15. Slope Gets Steeper -

Of Shelby County’s 33 ZIP codes that registered a home sale in the second quarter of 2008, all but one suffered a decline when compared to the same quarter of 2007, a trend that has been indicative of the area’s recent real estate woes.

16. MAAR Reports 22% DeclineIn March Home Sales -      Memphis-area home sales dropped 22.3 percent in March from the year-ago period, the Memphis Area Association of Realtors reported Wednesday. The month saw 1,155 sales, compared to 1,487 in March 2007.

17. Picking Up the Pieces -

The industrial real estate market was thrown into a tizzy last week when Tuesday night's fierce storm whipped through the multitude of warehouses and distribution centers in Southeast Memphis and left destruction in its path.

Dr. Richard W. Phillips has been named president-elect of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Phillips is a 1978 graduate of the college and the former regional executive director for Tennessee operations for TLC - Laser Eye Centers. He will be only the sixth person to hold the office in the college's 75-year history. Phillips will assume the presidency May 17. He is replacing William E. Cochran, who is retiring.
