NASHVILLE (AP) – The House has rejected Senate changes to a bill to require the governor to seek legislative approval for any prospective deal to expand Medicaid in Tennessee.

Republican Rep. Jeremy Durham of Franklin at first sought to agree to the Senate changes that that would bar lawmakers from being reimbursed for meal and lodging expenses if a special session had to be called to consider a Medicaid deal.

4. House Panel Advances Welfare Penalty for Parents -

NASHVILLE (AP) – A Tennessee House committee on Tuesday recommended passing a bill that would dock the welfare payments of parents of children who fail at a school despite Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's opposition to the measure.

5. Bill to Prohibit Discussion of Gay Issues Dies -

NASHVILLE (AP) – A measure that would have forced schools to tell parents if their children have talked to a teacher or counselor about being gay has failed this session.

The House version of that bill died in the House Education Subcommittee on Tuesday for lack of a second. The measure sought to prohibit classroom discussion of anything other than natural reproduction.

6. Presidential Birth Certificate Bill Fails in Tenn. -

NASHVILLE (AP) – A bill to require presidential candidates to prove they were born in the United States before being allowed on the Tennessee ballot has failed in a House subcommittee.
