1. Higher Prices Lift Union Pacific Q2 Profit 28 Pct. -

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Union Pacific said Thursday that its second-quarter net income surged 28 percent, as the nation's largest railroad collected higher prices and fuel surcharges and handled slightly more cargo. Its shares rose 3.5 percent by the afternoon after hitting an all-time high earlier.

3. Granting Wishes -

Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-South plans to grant 220 wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions this year.

On Thursday, May 24, the Memphis Area Association of Realtors Commercial Council was able to witness one of those wishes being granted firsthand at Windyke Country Club, as well as donate enough funds to share the power of three additional wishes.

A high-end automobile maintenance and repair shop soon will be added to Cooper-Young’s booming portfolio of local businesses.

Shane Herbers, founder of Midtown Motor Werks, has leased 5,000 square feet at 795 S. Cooper St. from Richard Sullivan.

In a normal year, Gordon Trucking Inc. might replace 20 percent of its fleet of 1,500 big rigs with new trucks. But given the bleak outlook for the freight business, the Pacific, Wash., hauler doesn’t intend to buy a single new truck next year.
