1. Bohannon to Chair Junior Achievement Board -

Morgan Bohannon has been named chairman of the board of director of Junior Achievement of Memphis & the Mid-South Inc. Bohannon, the regional market manager for iHeartMedia, became engaged with Junior Achievement when iHeartMedia sponsored the “Broadcast Center” at JA BizTown in 2012. He joined the board soon thereafter and has been involved ever since.

2. Van Vliet Takes on Roles at UT Medical, The MED -

Dr. Michael M. Van Vliet has joined the department of plastic surgery at UT Medical Group, has been named assistant professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and has been appointed director of burn critical care for the Firefighters Regional Burn Center at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis.

3. Indie Memphis Unveils New Festival Lineup -

The lineup for this year’s 16th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival is set.

During a preview party at the new Hi-Tone Café Thursday night, director Craig Brewer lifted the curtain on the slate of films being shown at this year’s festival, which kicks off on Halloween. The four-day event runs from Oct. 31 through Nov. 3 and includes more than 45 feature films that will be shown on five screens in the Overton Square district.

4. Revving Up -

After being vacant for more than a year, Memphis Motorsports Park sold at a live auction Tuesday morning for slightly less than $1.9 million.

Independent investor Joe Lubeck placed the highest bid for the tract – $1.875 million – after the bidding opened at $3 million. Lubeck is managing partner of Jupiter, Fla.-based Palm Beach International Raceway, formerly Moroso Motorsports Park. Jason Rittenburry, Lubeck’s partner, ran the track for 11 years.

5. Memphis Motorsports Park Sells for $1.9M -

After being vacant for more than a year, Memphis Motorsports Park sold at a live auction Tuesday morning for slightly less than $1.9 million.

The Small Business Chamber will host a breakfast forum titled “Doing Business with City & County Government” Tuesday from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. at The Crescent Club, 6075 Poplar Ave. Guest speakers are Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. and Shelby County Mayor Joe Ford. Cost is $20.

7. Events -

The Madison Hotel will host Smoking Up High: High-Class, Low-Key, a monthly rooftop cigar event, Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the rooftop of the hotel, 79 Madison Ave. The event will feature a selection of cigars from the Mix Cigar Emporium, a cash bar and tapas. 8. Influence 1 Foundation Names Hartsfield COO -

Felicia Hartsfield has been named chief operating officer of Influence 1 Foundation.

Hartsfield will oversee the continued stability and growth of the foundation’s fiscal, strategic, organizational and operational functions. Her duties also will include building and maintaining relationships with community leaders, as well as creating collaborations, which will enhance the foundation’s strategic model.

9. Leonard Joins Madison Hotel As Director of Sales -

Liese Leonard recently joined the Madison Hotel as director of sales.

Leonard is responsible for overseeing all internal and external sales efforts for the hotel including developing new accounts, maintaining existing accounts and supervising all sales and catering associates.

10. Able to Exhale -

The bulldozers and construction teams that build the sprawling estates in Arlington, the condominiums in Downtown Memphis, infill housing elsewhere in the city and expensive new homes in all the suburbs that surround Memphis got something of a breather this year.

11. Kobernus Joins MAAR As Governmental Affairs Director -

Aubrie Rhodes Kobernus has joined Memphis Area Association of Realtors (MAAR) as governmental affairs director. Kobernus received a master's degree in business administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in May 2006. While pursuing her degree, she interned with NeighborWorks America and New Century Financial Corp., focusing on the mortgage and housing industry.

12. Commercial Advisors' Jensen Voted Commercial Broker of the Year -

Larry Jensen has received the 2005 Pinnacle Award for Commercial Broker of the Year from the Memphis Area Association of Realtors' Commercial Council. Jensen is president and CEO of Commercial Advisors LLC. He has more than 30 years of experience in real estate.

13. Estate Planning Council Elects Officers -

The Memphis Estate Planning Council announced the following officers for 2005-2006: David B. Jones, president; Frank E. Davis, vice president; Jeffrey E. Thompson, secretary; James L. Ferguson Jr., treasurer; and Mike Wood, immediate past president. Other executive committee members are Kermit B. Kaiser, Leanne W. McCullough, Samuel N. Graham and Teresa R. Hurst.
