1. Suburban Voters Decide School Board Races -

Voters in Shelby County’s six suburban towns and cities elected their respective municipal schools boards Thursday, Nov. 7 with low voter turnouts that reflected that most of the school board positions on the ballots were one-candidate uncontested races.

The early vote is in for the Thursday, Nov. 7, suburban school board races in Shelby County’s six suburban towns and cities which are forming their own municipal school districts.

Only six of the school board races are contested with Lakeland voters choosing from a single list of seven contenders for five positions on the Lakeland school board.

Early voting in the Democratic primary special election for State House District 91 expands Friday, Sept. 27, from the Shelby County Election Commission’s Downtown offices, 157 Poplar Ave., to three satellite locations.

5. Filing Deadline Nears for School Board Races -

It looks as if the prospective candidates in many of the suburban school board races on the Nov. 7 ballot had already decided the winners a day away from the noon, Thursday, Sept. 26, filing deadline for the six sets of races.

6. County Commission Sees Calmer Session -

Ruffled feelings on the Shelby County Commission earlier this month were smoothed for the most part Monday, Sept. 23, as James Harvey chaired the second meeting of his yearlong term as commission chairman.

8. Surprise Commission Appointee Lays Out Plans, Goals -

Edith C. Moore is the newest member of the Shelby County Commission, which appointed her during its last meeting of the year on Dec. 21.

Moore represents District 3 Position 3, the seat vacated by Joe Ford earlier in December when he was appointed interim Shelby County mayor.

9. County Commission To Fill Vacancy -

Shelby County Commissioners will fill one vacancy today and make plans to fill another one.

On today’s agenda is the appointment of a new commissioner to fill the eight months left in the term of office of County Commissioner Joe Ford.

10. Commission To Interview Ford Replacement Applicants -

For the second time in a year, Shelby County Commission members are about to change the makeup of the 13-member body.

Commissioners today will interview applicants for the District 3, Position 3 seat Joe Ford is giving up to become interim Shelby County mayor. The meeting is set for 10 a.m.
