Harold Crye, Crye-Leike Realtors’ chief executive officer and co-founder, is a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

Regional award winners will be eligible for consideration in the Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 national program.

Shelby L. Slater has been hired at the University of Memphis as its first emergency preparedness coordinator.

Dr. Peter A. Netland will receive the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology at its annual conference this fall.

Netland, a Siegal Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is the director of the Glaucoma Service and vice chair for academic affairs for the UTHSC Department of Ophthalmology. He is also the site leader in Memphis for the Congressional Glaucoma Caucus.

Bass, Berry & Sims has hired LaToya Williams as an associate in its commercial transactions and real estate practice area. Harold Crye's surname is familiar to anyone who knows what a "For Sale" sign looks like - red and white Crye-Leike signs have dotted the Memphis landscape for the past 30 years.

Crye, along with partner Dick Leike, founded Crye-Leike Realtors in 1977.

29. Phillips to Become President of Optometry School -

Dr. Richard W. Phillips has been named president-elect of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis. Phillips is a 1978 graduate of the college and the former regional executive director for Tennessee operations for TLC - Laser Eye Centers. He will be only the sixth person to hold the office in the college's 75-year history. Phillips will assume the presidency May 17. He is replacing William E. Cochran, who is retiring.

30. Judge Larry Potter Receives KAB Award -

Larry E. Potter, presiding judge of the Memphis/Shelby County Environmental Court, has received Keep America Beautiful's (KAB) Iron Eyes Cody Award. The award was named in honor of KAB's landmark public awareness campaign of the 1970s, "People Start Pollution. People Can Stop It," which featured the iconic face and tear of Iron Eyes Cody and is credited with awakening the environmental consciousness of an entire generation. Potter became the first Environmental Court judge in Memphis and Tennessee in 1983. During that year, he helped create the court.
