The Jurex Center for Legal Nurse Consulting of Memphis is offering a two-day course Oct. 25 and 26 in Memphis to certify nurses and doctors to be expert witnesses and consultants in lawsuits.

The two-day course is 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 962 S. Shady Grove Road, the only time in the year that it is offered in that form.

Expert witnesses for legal issues involving medical matters aren’t always doctors because nurses often have more firsthand knowledge about a disputed practice or protocol.

Nurses who become certified as legal experts can make as much as $150 to $200 an hour, said Elizabeth G. Rudolph, the founder of Memphis-based Jurex Center for Legal Nurse Consulting. Rudolph is a lawyer, nurse and legal nurse consultant.
