NASHVILLE (AP) – State Sen. Stacey Campfield has given a deposition in which he is unapologetic for posting false information about a Democratic candidate on his blog, dismissive of the possibility of paying damages for that and belittling of the technological skills of fellow lawmakers.

NASHVILLE (AP) – House Republican Caucus Chairman Glen Casada doesn’t dispute that he could be the source of comments leading to a $750,000 libel lawsuit against another GOP lawmaker.

But Casada also says he doesn’t remember any discussion with Knoxville Rep. Stacey Campfield that led Campfield to write on his blog that Democrat Roger Byrge had been arrested several times on drug charges.

3. Tenn. Lawmaker Claims Immunity from Libel Lawsuit -

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A Republican lawmaker in Tennessee is asking a judge to dismiss a $750,000 libel lawsuit against him on the basis that his blog is covered by legislative immunity.

The lawsuit was filed by Roger Byrge, an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the state House last year. It claims Rep. Stacey Campfield of Knoxville falsely wrote on his blog in the weeks before the election that Byrge had been arrested several times on drug charges.
