3. Health Choice Selects Abisch to Lead Population Health Services -

Ellen Abisch has joined Health Choice LLC as senior director of population health services. In the newly created position, Abisch will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing population health and wellness programs for the Health Choice network.
Prior to joining the physician hospital organization, she served as manager of benefits and wellness for ServiceMaster.

4. Cates, Kornegay Look to Future While Honoring Colliers’ Past -

The memory is scorched in Andy Cates’ mind.

It was 2005 and Cates, just 29 years old at the time, was being made a partner at Colliers International Memphis, the commercial real estate firm.

5. Comics Universe -

As he raised his four children, Joe Thordarson increasingly thought about the important roles that art and literature played in education.

“I never felt art got the attention it deserved in a kid’s education, and any art you can encourage is good for their education,” he said. “Art and writing are so important and I wanted to encourage that.”

7. Centennial on Tap for Traffic Club of Memphis -

The Traffic Club of Memphis is kick-starting its 100-year celebration with the introduction of its 2013 officers, led for the second straight year by president Mason Wilson.

The club’s activities this year will feature a series of local events, including the Traffic Club International annual conference in September.

Utley Properties has closed on a flurry of deals in its Northwest Plaza Shopping Center in Senatobia in recent weeks.

The former Mazda North America Inc. distribution center in Olive Branch has been acquired by Hillwood Investment Properties for $13.5 million.

11. TVs are Hot Sellers This Holiday Season -

NEW YORK (AP) – In an unexpected twist, TVs are topping many Christmas shopping lists this year.

Wal-Mart says TVs are among the top gifts people are putting on layaway at its 3,000-plus U.S. stores during the holiday season. The Westinghouse 46-inch LCD HDTV that was on sale for half off at Target for $298 was a top seller during the start to the season last weekend. And Abt Electronics already has sold out of 55-inch Samsung LED TVs that were marked down by half to $1,099.

12. Colliers’ Wilkinson Receives Tom Richardson Award -

Dan Wilkinson, chairman of Colliers International Memphis, recently was presented the 2011 Tom Richardson Award at the 2011 Colliers International National Meeting in Chicago.

13. Daily News Garners Eight TPA Awards -

The Daily News and sister publication The Memphis News won eight honors in the University of Tennessee-Tennessee Press Association awards announced Friday, July 15, at the annual TPA convention in Nashville.

17. Retail Federation Reports 2010 Shipping Volume -

The combination of East Coast and West Coast ports are forecast to have imported a total of 16.3 million twenty-foot equivalents (TEUs) in 2010, a 17.4 percent increase from 2009, according to the National Retail Federation.

19. Garrison Appointed to Leadership Post for American Bar Section -

Grady M. Garrison has been appointed to serve as vice chair of the Intellectual Property Litigation Subcommittee for the American Bar Association Litigation Section.

Garrison, of counsel at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC, concentrates his practice in the areas of intellectual property and franchise law.

20. YLD President Wiggins Joins Baker Donelson as Associate -

Kyle M. Wiggins has joined Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz PC as an associate in the Health Services & Products group. He will concentrate his practice on litigation surrounding medical malpractice defense, personal injury defense and general civil litigation.

21. Influence 1 Foundation Names Hartsfield COO -

Felicia Hartsfield has been named chief operating officer of Influence 1 Foundation.

Hartsfield will oversee the continued stability and growth of the foundation’s fiscal, strategic, organizational and operational functions. Her duties also will include building and maintaining relationships with community leaders, as well as creating collaborations, which will enhance the foundation’s strategic model.

23. Tutor Receives Transplant Nursing Excellence Award -

Dr. Ruth Tutor has received the 2007 Transplant Nursing Excellence Award from the International Transplant Nurses Society. Tutor is a Critical Care/Transplant Advance Practice Nurse at Methodist University Hospital Transplant Institute. She has worked with transplant patients since 1985. She joined the nursing staff at the Transplant Institute in 2004.

26. FBI Special Agent Harrison Named PRSA Communicator of the Year -

My Harrison has been named the 2006 PRSA Communicator of the Year by the Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She is a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in charge of the Memphis field office. Since her arrival in Memphis two years ago, she has supervised a number of high-profile federal investigations, including "Operation Tennessee Waltz," "Operation Tarnished Blue" and "Operation Main Street Sweeper."

27. Women's Foundation Director Shines as Woman of Character -

Ruby Bright has been recognized as a 2006 Woman of Character by the Girl Scout Council of the Mid-South. Bright, who is the executive director of the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis, was recognized for her courage, confidence and leadership.
