ATLANTA (AP) – Republicans who want to regain control of the Senate will first have to do battle among themselves in 2014 primary elections, due largely to differences over how to proceed against the law they deride as "Obamacare."

5. Meadows Appointed to State Dentistry Board -

Dr. Dan T. Meadows has been appointed to the Tennessee Board of Dentistry by Gov. Bill Haslam. Meadows, who has a private practice on Walnut Grove Road, will serve as the Rotating Dentist member through June 2016.

7. Fetal Heartbeat Bill Killed by Miss. Senate Chair -

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – A Mississippi Senate chairman on Thursday killed a bill that could have led to a homicide criminal prosecution for anyone performing an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is found.

8. Naifeh to Retire After 38 Years in House -

NASHVILLE (AP) – Rep. Jimmy Naifeh announced Thursday that he won't seek re-election after 38 years in the House of Representatives, saying it's time to "pass the torch to the next generation of leaders."

9. Leadership Memphis Announces Board Members -

Leadership Memphis has announced new board members and officers for its new fiscal year.

The officers and executive committee include Eric Robertson, chair; Beverly Jordan, vice chair; Bryan Ford, treasurer; Veronica Coleman Davis, secretary; Chris McLean, immediate past chair; Jeff Gaudino, alumni chair; Christine Munson, development chair; Lemoyne Robinson, program chair; and Jeane Chapman, marketing chair.

10. Special Elections Held in Miss. -

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Ron C. Cooke and Chris Hemphill will compete in the Nov. 24 runoff for justice court judge in Lowndes County.

11. UTHSC Professor Dagogo-Jack Appointed A.C. Mullins Chair -

Samuel Dagogo-Jack has been appointed to the A.C. Mullins chair in Translational Research, an endowed professorship, at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center. Dagogo-Jack has also been named chief of the Division of Endocrinology for the Department of Medicine in the College of Medicine.

12. Influence 1 Foundation Names Hartsfield COO -

Felicia Hartsfield has been named chief operating officer of Influence 1 Foundation.

Hartsfield will oversee the continued stability and growth of the foundation’s fiscal, strategic, organizational and operational functions. Her duties also will include building and maintaining relationships with community leaders, as well as creating collaborations, which will enhance the foundation’s strategic model.
