We also know it will be the last time Tigers fans get to see senior D.J. Stephens play – dunk – in a home Tigers game.

4. Streaking Tigers Keeping Fans on Their Toes -

In this era of University of Memphis basketball the home crowd is easily made restless. So when a 7-point halftime lead over Houston went away early in the second half as the Cougars tied the score 39-39, a community grumble rolled through FedExForum.

5. Is Grizzlies’ Best Behind Them or Yet to Come? -

Is the Grizzlies’ potential not-yet-realized or grossly overestimated? That’s the only relevant question in the midst of Rudy Rumors, speculation about coach Lionel Hollins’ long-term future with the team, and the level of commitment new ownership is or isn’t willing to make in the here and now to this particular roster.

6. Tigers Must Stay on Right Path to Reach Potential -

Depending on your perspective, it was lavish praise that spoke to the Tigers’ potential still there for the realizing and great NCAA Tournament victories still there for the taking.

Or, depending on your perspective, it was an unintentional indictment of a college basketball team that so far has majored in underachievement and of a basketball equation where the sum is always less than its individual parts.

So on the first day of their new NBA season, the Grizzlies picked up where they left off – losing an intense, physical game in Los Angeles on Halloween night to the Clippers. It was a game that, quite honestly, did not look or feel like a regular-season game.

Last season, the Grizzlies made the playoffs and even earned home-court advantage for their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Last season, the Tigers made the NCAA Tournament after winning the regular season and tournament Conference USA championships.

13. Pastner Channels Inner Bob Knight -

Josh Pastner finally got mad.

Really, really, really mad.

Not enough to cuss. Not enough to throw a chair. But enough to pound on the scorer’s table and knock out the electricity on part of press row – sports writers unplugged.

14. Will Barton Leads Memphis Past Tulane 82-64 -

NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Memphis guard Will Barton noticed the excitement building in Tulane's cozy Fogelman Arena when the Green Wave took a second-half lead, and he decided it was time to make up for his slow start on the offensive end.

17. Wins Shouldn’t Be This Hard For Tigers -

Let’s start with the positives. The Tigers have a five-game winning streak. They’re 2-0 in Conference USA heading into the Saturday, Jan. 14, game at Houston. Which means they didn’t lose to a horrid UAB team in Birmingham (but they almost did), and they didn’t give away a game at home against Southern Miss (although they gave it the old college try).
