The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services has disciplined three high-ranking employees over child death record keeping.
The Tennessean cited internal memos in reporting the demotion of team coordinator Lisa Lund, who appealed the penalty and was reinstated with a two-day unpaid suspension. The documents also noted the two-day suspension of Director of Child Safety Marjahna Hart, who is Lund’s supervisor.

According to The Tennessean, the annual report looked into what the commission termed the worst incidents of child abuse in Tennessee.

The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services is trying to more quickly answer hotline calls about suspected child abuse.
According to The Tennessean that line rings more than 400 times daily. And usually, the caller is put on “hold.” The department says that results in as many as 25 percent of them hanging up.

Federal Cuts Could Cost State More Than 5,000 Jobs -

NASHVILLE (AP) – Tennessee agencies would have to cut more than 5,000 jobs if Congress reduces the state's federal funds by as much as 30 percent.
Deep federal spending cuts are required under the recent debt-ceiling agreement in Congress. A special bipartisan committee in Congress has been tasked with crafting a compromise $1.5 trillion, 10-year debt reduction package.
