1. Tennessee Justices Name Slatery Attorney General -

The state Supreme Court on Monday named Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's top legal adviser, Herbert Slatery, as Tennessee's next attorney general.

The announcement comes in the aftermath of a failed conservative campaign to oust three Democratic justices who make up a majority on the five-member court. That effort focused heavily on incumbent Attorney General Bob Cooper's refusal to take part in a multistate lawsuit challenging President Barack Obama's health care law.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Republican leaders from 10 Southern states have been meeting in Alabama to plan strategies for making new GOP inroads across the region.

Alabama Republican Chairman Bill Armistead says the two-day meeting of state party chairs and executive directors concluded Tuesday in Birmingham.

4. Haslam Names Slatery as Counsel to Governor -

With two months until he takes the oath of office as Tennessee governor, Republican Bill Haslam has made his first appointment.

Haslam recently named Knoxville attorney Herbert Slatery as counsel to the governor.
