Mudbugs in March will return for the third year to Court Square in Downtown Memphis on Saturday, March 16, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.

3. Burger King Plans Apology After Twitter Hack -

Somebody hacked Burger King's Twitter account on Monday, posting obscene messages and changing its profile picture to a McDonald's logo.

The tweets stopped after a little more than an hour, and Burger King said it had reached out to Twitter to suspend the account. A Twitter spokesman did not immediately respond to a phone message left on Monday.

4. Union Backers Say Nissan Threatens Plant Closure -

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Pro-union workers said Tuesday that Nissan Motor Co. has threatened to close its Canton assembly plant if workers vote for the United Auto Workers to represent them, though the company denies such threats.

Michelle Harris was Nurse of the Year at Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center. Donna Adams received the honor at the Fayette County hospital. Amy Duncan was recognized for affiliated services.

13. Glankler Brown’s Hancock Elected Bar Foundation Fellow -

Jonathan C. Hancock of Glankler Brown PLLC has been elected a Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation, an association of 710 attorneys across the state.

14. Memphis Bar Assn. Elects New Officers, Board Members -

At the Memphis Bar Association’s Annual Meeting Thursday at The Peabody hotel, the MBA announced its 2010 officers and new members of its board of directors.

Immediate past president Art Quinn passed the gavel to incoming president Ricky E. Wilkins of the Law Offices of Ricky E. Wilkins. John Cannon of Shuttleworth Williams PLLC and Gary K. Smith of Apperson Crump & Maxwell PLC automatically move to the positions of vice president/president-elect and treasurer, respectively. Linda Warren Seely, director of pro bono projects at Memphis Area Legal Services Inc., was chosen as secretary.

16. Expert: Social Media Here to Stay -

For businesses, the first secret to leveraging Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other networks is not to be afraid of social media.

After all, as social media consultant Glen Gilmore has noted, social media is where a business will most likely find its customers as well as its competition. Social media is simply a fundamental shift in the way businesses communicate, he told about 102 people at a social media conference late last week.

19. U of M’s Preza Receives $740K Award for Research -

Dr. Chrysanthe Preza has received a more than $740,000 National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development Award for her research to improve live cell imaging. Preza is an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Memphis’ Herff College of Engineering.

20. Dudek Promoted to Member At Glankler Brown -

Amy Dudek has been promoted to a member at Glankler Brown PLLC. Dudek was an associate with the firm for more than seven years.

21. U of M’s Heath Given Distinguished Teaching Award -

Dr. Julia Heath, professor of economics at the University of Memphis, has been honored with the Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award by the Southern Economic Association.

22. Renasant Names Wiegert VP, Mortgage Production Manager -

Michael Wiegert has been named vice president and mortgage production manager for Renasant Bank in Memphis.

23. Landmark Community Bank Names Newell Chairman of Board -

Chuck Newell has been elected chairman of the board of directors of Landmark Community Bank and will be based in Landmark’s Collierville branch.

Newell brings more than 28 years of banking experience to the board and currently serves as the president and CEO of Merchants and Planters Bancshares.

24. Glankler Brown Attorneys Named to AIC -

Three attorneys with Glankler Brown PLLC have been named members of the Leo Bearman Sr. American Inn of Court.

Amy Dudek, Andre Mathis and Michael Tauer all recently were named members to the local branch of the national American Inns of Court organization. In all, the Memphis chapter inducted 25 attorneys. Glankler Brown’s three were the most by any area firm.

Jason Herrington, a financial adviser at Shoemaker Financial, has been named a field director for the firm. He will have the responsibility of advising and mentoring new advisers during their two-year training period.

27. Dixon Gallery and Gardens Appoints Sharp as Director -

The Dixon Gallery and Gardens Board of Trustees has appointed Kevin Sharp as the museum's new director. Sharp received a bachelor's degree in art history from Central Missouri State University and completed graduate studies at the University of Illinois in art history and architecture. He previously served as the research curator for The Art Institute of Chicago and as the curator of American art at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, Fla.

28. Hampton Hotels Names Smith Senior Director of Product Service -

Kurt Smith has been named senior director of product service and development at Hampton Hotels. Previously, Smith served Hampton as director of global brand integration. Prior to that position, he was the director of hotel performance support.

My Harrison has been named the 2006 PRSA Communicator of the Year by the Memphis chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA). She is a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in charge of the Memphis field office. Since her arrival in Memphis two years ago, she has supervised a number of high-profile federal investigations, including "Operation Tennessee Waltz," "Operation Tarnished Blue" and "Operation Main Street Sweeper."

39. Marketing Agency Hires New Art Director -

Lyle Wardlaw has joined full-service advertising, marketing, design and public relations firm inferno as art director. Prior to that she spent three years providing design support for clients at Imre Communications and Babcock Advertising in the Washington, D.C., area. She graduated from Millsaps College in 1996 with a double major in studio art and elementary education, and has completed advertising and graphics programs from Memphis College of Art and Southwest Community College. In her position as art director, Wardlaw will serve clients and help with new creative projects.

40. Med Nurse Earns State Leadership Award -

The Tennessee Nurses Association recognized Dr. Diane Todd Pace with the Alma E. Gault Leadership Award. Pace is a nurse practitioner/nurse scientist with the Regional Medical Center at Memphis/Health Loop Clinics. She earned a doctorate from the University of Tennessee.

41. DeBerry Named 2005 Legislator of the Year -

The Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police presented U.S. Rep. John DeBerry the Legislator of the Year award. DeBerry, who represents District 90 in Memphis, is chairman of the House Children and Family Affairs committee.
