Searching - ListBuilder offers you a series of very powerful, refined searches of specific databases. Depending on the database, you can narrow your results by date range, location, the dollar amount involved, and so on.
Purchasing - After you've submitted your search, you will be sent to a Preview & Purchase page. This page tells you how many records your search generated and shows you the first five results. If you want to view the full set of records, press the "View & Purchase List" button. Note that your account will be charged 15 cents per record for this list. If your search produces more than 500 records (a $75 purchase), you will not be able to download the records directly from the site and must contact customer service to proceed.
Downloading - Once you've purchased the list, you can print it from your browser, or download it to your computer. The file will be downloaded as a CSV (comma separated values) file. This is a text file, with the values separated by quotes and commas. The file can be imported by most any word processor, spreadsheet program, or database program.
Most users of newer versions of Microsoft Office will be able to double-click on the .csv file and have it open directly into Excel. If this is not the case - or if you wish to automatically open .csv files with a different program than Excel - simply do the following:

Name Search - If you are unsure of the spelling of a name, it is sometimes better to type in the first few letters of the name in order to get the most results. For example, enter "John" to get results for John, Johnny, and Johnnie.
Do not use punctuation such as periods after initials or commas between names.
Capitalization is not necessary. The search pays no attention to upper or lower case.
Property Search - If you want to see only one address on a street, type in the exact street number. For example, 193 Jefferson. To search a range of addresses on a street, type in the first one or two digits of the block you want to see. For example, to view details of addresses in the 2300 block of Central Avenue, type in "23" and "Central".
When typing in a street name, you do not need to type in street directions, such as "N" or "North" for "North Parkway". Likewise, you do not need to enter the type of thoroughfare, such as "Blvd,", "Ave.", "St.", etc. Thus, 1765 North Parkway Boulevard will be found if you type in "1765 Parkway".
Do not type in an apartment number or suite number in the "street name" blank.
Types of Information - Below the blanks in which you type the name or address a series of check boxes next to the types of information available to search in The Daily News. You may choose as many of these boxes as you like by simply clicking on each box with your mouse. If an "x" appears in the box, then The Daily News will search that category of information. If you change your mind and want to remove the "x", simply click again.
Maximum Results - If your search is so broad that it will return more than 250 results for a given data type, the results for that type will not be displayed. You will need to refine your search results. Try being more specific or use the date range feature to limit the results.
The Daily News archive is a comprehensive text search of all articles published in The Daily News since 1995. The archive search will search through the full article, including headline, reporter name, and the body of the article itself.
The search supports Boolean operators, so you can link words together using AND and OR.
